Zoom?
Maybe you’ve already organized one… But maybe you haven’t… How about some zoom sessions about Librivox issues such as “how to”… And...” Here we all are!“... etc.

I thought about it but it seems a bit too complicated. Perhaps others can get moving? The usefulness of zoom session was questioned and there does seem to be a valid concern.
I think there'd need to be a specific topic for which a Zoom call would be helpful. The how-to's are covered by existing videos, and I don't think it would useful in trying to resolve individual's tech issues. If you have an idea to organize a Zoom around, then maybe. Any ideas?
Well, another thing that speaks against zoom meetings is: If the people you want to reach already are technologically challenged, then setting up zoom is probably not something they could handle easily either.
Cheers, Ava.

I think another possible reason for gathering together… Might be purely as a “social gathering”!
Has such a Librivox “convention“ ever been held??
Have the throngs actually seen and spoken with Hugh and other leaders??
Maybe it’s time, in this technologically different world!??

One of the big problems is setting a time for an international group. Various people have tried at times but it hasn't been particularly successful. One of the joys of LV for many of us is that we can fit things in with our other commitments because it is so flexible.
But I'm sure if someone was prepared to take on the organisation it would be worth a try.

One suggestion to the potential "organizer"...
make it for about 10 or 11 AM Eastern (US) time...which would be "doable" for all of the Americas and Europe and much of Asia, I would think. A little late for Australia and NZ though!!
Oh well...just dreamin'....

What kind of needs would a zoom social gathering cover, that can't be covered by socialising in the forum?
I wonder if it would take less editing to record a play or DR during a zoom call

I have been participating in Zoom meetings a lot more lately due to the virus and am finding it easier and easier. It is nice to see people an interact; although many people don't have camera at all and it still seems to work. The mechanics are still not obvious to me but I'd like to try another one to discuss ... Zoom social meetings and the Best Coffee To Drink While Surfing LibriVox!!! It will be Sunday 8/30/2020 at noon Central Time Zone in the US and I will get an ID and whatever else is needed then let you know in this forum more. Adventure awaits!

That would be a fun possibility! It would probably take more finessing (for example, volume adjusting would be harder because the audio is all together already). And there's always a lot of flubs, side comments, and stuff like that to edit out. I wonder how the quality would be...I wonder if it would take less editing to record a play or DR during a zoom call

Something similar was tried over the telephone years ago. As you might imagine the sound quality was far from ideal. A video call on computers might be slightly better, but it would depend on where the participants are in terms of background, echos from larger rooms, etc. One advantage would be the ability to use a decent microphone if you use a computer (as opposed to a cell phone, for example) on the zoom call. You would have to decide if everyone was going to record their own audio locally or if it would be recorded by the moderator as part of the zoom call. I have only used Zoom once and I didn't initiate the call, so I have no idea if you can record just the audio without the video portion or what the quality would be. Might be an interesting experiment for some of our drama folks to try. A short one act play would probably be best.

You can indeed record audio, at least the host can I know for sure. A Drama could be recorded 'live' and edited later. ??HMMMM/mmm? But I just want to dabble a bit in this forbidden pool of technology and see what bobs up.
I hope to be able to join in on Sunday! What an event!philchenevert wrote: ↑August 27th, 2020, 1:07 pm You can indeed record audio, at least the host can I know for sure. I wonder if Hugh is around to join also??

Join Zoom Meeting
https://us04web.zoom.us/j/72654970896?pwd=UThSa2l2ZW9qQ09EZnRTMFBUNVFpQT09
Meeting ID: 726 5497 0896

The meeting is scheduled for 30 minutes but we will probably go longer to 45 or so if they let us. Note this is on Sunday.
