I can't remember if someone posted that earlier, or if I saw it somewhere else (Facebook or Twitter or something).

Due to the difficulty of proving a negative, we rely on two sources for these questionable, copyright-not-renewed-so-PD works: gutenberg.org and hathitrust.org

If they're available there (on PG a "PD in the USA" and on HT with Full View), then we conclude they're PD and available for recording on LV. Other sources? We don't know their due diligence - how well they searched for a copyright renewal.

So yes, it's nice to know. But no - we don't take just anyone's word for it. :)

The article talks about a 'quirk' in copyright law. I'm going to have to look back in the dictionary for that one.
"E agora, José?"
