I notice there are often more than one version of a particular book

For example, HG Wells Time Machine

I find it quite refreshing to listen to different narrators reading the same bookl
Read a book; throw out your Kindle. Power cut? How are you going to use your Kindle with no power? Light a candle & read a book

Sometimes one simply resonates with one reader in particular. It's nice to have choices.

From my own experience, my mum would not wish to listen to a woman's voice if a man's was available. I thought it was strange, but never questioned it.

I think either voice is ok
