I only just saw "the email", came to the forum to find loads of posts missing as expected, clicked again... connection refused.
Clicked again and... everything seems to be back!

Well done to all involved - must have been an absolute nightmare, before Christmas!

Have a nice glass of sherry!

I'm not sure if the posts made between the outage (Mon Dec 21, 2015 12:52 am EST) will be restored. We admins were manually downloading the files that people uploaded, so we have those. If the sysadmin doesn't restore the files and posts from the backup server that was running for the past 12 hours, we'll upload the files back onto the current, working server. But the posts might not come back.

I'm about to make a global announcement, since the other one is gone.

Oh yeah - I don't think anyone would expect the posts in that gap to come back.

The post/email does say "Please DO NOT post, upload any files, or make any other changes for the time being".

Couldn't be any clearer. I can't image the nightmare that trying to merge the two versions would be anyway!

It was about 16 hours. Fortunately, most people saw the announcement and didn't upload their files or post in the forum, so not much was lost.

So ... OK to post updates and upload files again now, or is the Law of the Innate Perversity of Inanimate Objects still operative?

Cheers,

I haven't heard from the sysadmin, but I assume it's OK to post and upload. I'm uploading the backed up files myself.
