A new solo book project I'm just starting ... the Australian 'On Our Selection' ... has been made into movies a number of times, in the silent era, in the early talkies, and again in 1995. Usually any movie draws on the material in the several books in this series. I thought the 1995 version was particularly faithful to the original books.
Now here's the thing. Below is a link to the John Williamson music video ... he did the theme song ... and it features some snippets of the film.
I think fans of the opera might be quite surprised and pleased when they catch a glimpse of who played Ellen Rudd ('Mother')...

Dad and Dave was an extremely popular radio serial in Australia , running on week nights for about 11 minutes using the characters from the books.
Archive has some early episodes https://archive.org/details/DadDaveFromSnakeGullyaus from 1937. It ran till 1953 when the actor playing Dad died.
