A copy of a brief discussion we just had in another forum, just by way of an FYI ( or is that CYA? Either way...) to any interested MC.
MC
The Australian Poetry Library site has a lengthy Terms and Conditions page which includes language such as "You agree that you will only use our Service for non-commercial personal use and for no other purpose and no one other than you will use the Service under the license granted to you." I think that this could be a problem for us, so I've changed your source URL in the MW to the Project Gutenberg text here: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/213/213-h/213-h.htm#link2H_4_0011. I PL'ed your recording against the PG text, and it is identical to your source. At any rate, we know that we're on safe ground with the PG text. I hope that's O.K. with you.

Hmm, from memory the Australian Poetry Library was used elsewhere in some of my readings. Worth informing the MC's of those collections, do you think?
Specifically:

Fall In, My Men, Fall In - Alternate webpage - http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks06/0607541h.html
First World War Centenary Poetry Collection
The Star of Australasia - Alternate webpage - http://www.gutenberg.org/files/214/214-h/214-h.htm

Well, I am clearly incorrect then. Sorry. I will change the link in the MW back to your source, the Australian Poetry Library. I will leave matters of Public Domain-ness to others. I remain confused about what I see prohibited from use at LibriVox and what I see accepted--and why. Thanks for the information, Son of the Exiles!

Thanks, Lucretia.
Just to be on the safe side, I might just post something in the General Discussion forum.
The Copyright Issue again...

Australian Guternberg is not automaticaly PD for Librivox so be careful. It does host a number of things that are there because they are not PD in the USA.
However Henry Lawson is safe - he died 1922
Your first links are probably safe too , the copyright usually applies to layout - so you don't take their pages and print them as a book or reuse them on another web page,
They can't slap copyright on something that is already PD

Just to keep things straight. I know our acronyms and their meanings can get confusing.
You are quoting Lucretia and she is the DPL (Dedicated Proof Listener) for that project. Bart is the MC (meta-coordinator) and also the BC (book coordinator).

Whoops
Bit of a 'Good Morning, Vietnam' moment ... "Seeing as how the VP is such a VIP, shouldn't we keep the PC on the QT? 'Cause if it leaks to the VC he could end up MIA, and then we'd all be put on KP".

Well, I posted again about it over in the Short Ghost and Horror Collection thread, so I'll add it here as well. Sorry I mentioned it at all as I'm sure it's been properly vetted in other projects. And yes, I'm just the DPL over there--not the MC or BC.lubee930 wrote:Hi again, Son of the Exile (and Bart)--
Well, perhaps the restrictive language applies only to Australia Poetry Library users who download the poems for a fee. I see also info on the site that states:
"This website currently contains over 42,000 poems, representing the work of more than 170 Australian poets. All the poems are fully searchable, and may be accessed and read freely on the World Wide Web. Readers wishing to download and print poems may do so for a small fee, part of which is returned to the poets via CAL, the Copyright Agency Limited. Teachers, students and readers of Australian poetry can also create personalised anthologies, which can be purchased and downloaded. Print on demand versions will be availabe from Sydney University Press in the near future."
So maybe that's the difference--and why it's acceptable for LibriVox readers to use their site as a source? Who knows. My head hurts. I liked your poem very much, wherever we link to it.
Kind regards,
Lucretia

Wasn't it Napoleon who very nearly said "Every DPL in the LibriVox team carries a MC's baton in their knapsack"?lubee930 wrote:And yes, I'm just the DPL over there--not the MC or BC.

No such thing as batons here (well no one has ever given me one), If I'm PLing something I'm a DPL , if I'm reading I'm a reader, if I'm BCing I'm a BC- it's what you are in the thread that counts.

Good point, Anne.
