Hey guys, start your own thread!

(Seriously. You'll get the right attention that way).

'Guild' is a good word. I think I enjoyed the pun of 'chapter', but equally that might be misleading.

Completely up for suggestions, and will edit the thread title when we have a winner.

I also like chapter, but the idea of something that doesn't quite sound right like "sect" might be nice.

I also think it should be called "UK" or "British" rather than "London", since I like to be nominally in it, even though I'm unlikely to be a very active participant.

There is that - it would only be London in the sense of it happening in London rather than all the participants being from London.

But if it's called UK, then what would any ones that might occur in other areas with different people be called?

Oh, I get it. You don't want the colonials horning in on your perfectly good idea :D

Well if that's the way it is, check out this thread:

Thanks David :) :D

Good stuff, Sean!

I'll watch your thread so I can poach any good ideas that come out of it.

I've set up this wiki page:- http://librivox.org/wiki/moin.cgi/UKChapter and put in some details for the first meeting - Sunday 18th Feb, at my place.

Those who are planning to come, please either post here or enter yourselves in the wiki page.

Likewise any suggestions for what we can work on.

Ambitious would be good! - But obviously it'll become clearer what we should aim for when we know the likely numbers.

Oh, and if you think of anything else that should be in the wiki, just go ahead and add it.

Hi!

I'll be happy to join you guys some date or other, provided that the ryanair fares are reasonable...
I live close to the airport in Friedrichshafen/Lake Constance so a flight to London is a short trip compared to the effort to get to the next bigger town by train...

Tried to Google New Cross for suitable literature:

Robert Browning lived there for a bit...

...and Edith Nesbitt lived in Lewisham for a bit, but as a child...

(note Five Children and It has already been done).

Top thinking, Carl!

I've put 'authors with a local connection' on the wiki, and added Christopher Marlowe. 'Tamburlaine' might be a bit ambitious for a starter project...

That might be a good idea Peter! I remember a BBC adaptation of Five Childen And It when I was young, might be fun to read one of those books.

Problem with doing a book is that it means we all take turns to sit and watch one person read?

There are at least five children, plus a narrator, plus all sorts of incidental parts in the Nesbit books. We could read one like a play, taking parts.

Alternatively, we could choose a collection of very short stories / anecdotes or tales, and read them round the table.

If we had an idea how many readers would be turning up, we could arrange readers for the sectins before-hand ... otherwise, it's likely to get confusing on the day.
