Does everyone use Audacity?
Oh boy, now I feel like an idiot. Sorry about that everyone.
I've actually never thought about a script, I just stop, highlight the mistake, delete it, and then hold shift and click record.
...Though, hitting a key is much quieter than a mouse click.
Care to share that script?

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be mean, but I am still giggling.DrewJ wrote:

I stop, click at the error point, drag to the end, then hit my script key. All my script does is 'find zero crossing', 'delete', 'append record' and off I go again. I have changed all the default shortcut keys for those actions in my Audacity so my actual script won't work for anybody else.I've actually never thought about a script, I just stop, highlight the mistake, delete it, and then hold shift and click record.

I'm just glad you found it funny instead of being offended.Darvinia wrote:I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be mean, but I am still giggling.DrewJ wrote:

There is probably a 'How to make audacity scripts' guide somewhere on the web.

Yeah, I thought it was funny too.....
This is a video on Auto Hot Keys and using the script with Audacity. http://youtu.be/0JXQvTS4We8
It saves 90% of my editing work and time. I also have a video on personalizing your Audacity hot keys that may be informative ... or maybe not but they save me time in zooming, appending recording (picking up where you left off), and lots of other stuff .....

Ah, sound engineers need software too. Thanks for all the feedback!annise wrote:Sjmarky has posted above about what he uses. We don't insist on people using anything , but Audacity is free, has good noisecleaning - and has people here who use it and can give advice for new users - a really good program for people to start recording with . Professional audiobooks are recorded by sound engineers so I doubt there would be a specific program for them. Everyone finds things that suit them and things they hate about every program - I can't imagine wanting to edit as I go, I'd sooner concentrate on the flow of the text - but I know there are people who do - and there are some who never make mistakes - or at least sound that way when you proof listen

There was once a video on YouTube showing the processing done on a professional audiobook by a sound engineer. If I recall correctly, it was a Random House video, but has since been removed. He was using ProTools, but the processes used were extremely similar to those I use myself, including removing mouth noise within individual consonants and vowels.
Any of the amusing out-take videos on YouTube demonstrate that the readers (usually actors) just stand there and read. They are not remotely concerned with what happens afterwards, and are often interrupted by the producer (yes, they have one of those, too) telling them to read something in a particular way or get a pronunciation correct. Some of them are gloriously pathetic. Judy Geeson actually brings her dog to the recording session and really can't speak English, and my word, does Spike Milligan have some mouth noise! Warning, the language can be fruity.

Which just goes to show, professional audiobooks doesn't mean professional actors, just professional editing.
Spike Milligan sounds like he is talking around a piece of taffy.

HA. well .... i left myself wide open for that one, eh ?
If you never hear Phil make a mistake, that means I'm doing my job.
Speaking of which, I am working on those chapters, honest, I've just had an insanely busy week.

I primarily use Goldwave. I use Sony Vegas Pro for my videos, so I might use it more for audio if I decide it works well enough.
