Finally just took the time to read through this thread. Brilliant idea Jim, I love it! Looking forward to seeing where this goes...

Haven't changed the xml yet but I suppose I'd better leave it and go to work for a bit.

Let's move this thread over to the Volunteers Wanted: Other Projects area ...

... and let's also figure out how to make this an entry in the LibriVox News so that it shows up on the front page when a new podcast is released...

I wonder if we might be better starting a whole new thread in Volunteers Wanted. This one has become rather full of my wild flailings as I attempt to get to grips with podcast technology.
A thread which has a significant first post might be good so there are useful links there.

I'm just check and see that today, 11 days after the original single podcast was set in place, there have only been 4 down loads. One was me.

Just and interesting fact.

Archive.org's download tally is extremely deceptive. I did some testing a long time ago and it seems only to count downloads which occur as a result of clicking the link on the archive page -- not the ones which happen as a result of podcasting or clicks from our catalog pages, or any other means of accessing the file.

But still, we'll get more hits when we have that podcast xml file up someplace where people can find it! Is the xml in its permanent home, Jim? I can add a link to our front page, if you like.

That would be great Kara, yes.
I was looking around to see how to edit that bit of the front page and couldn't find it anywhere.
I'm happy to edit the xml file and so would prefer it on my own server.
Betsie is doing this week's podcast which should be available any day now and I'll edit the xml file as soon as I get the details.
so http://www.umor.co.uk/podcast.xmlis the home of the podcast xml file.
I'm intending to create a wiki page tonight and do a post specifically for the weekly community podcast.

Link added to front page, in the "Feeds" section.
I'm looking forward to the next episode!

BRAVO JIM!

Should we announce on the blog page when there is a new episode?

PS if the debate is still on about what should be in the podcast, I'd suggest the standard LV approach: just let whoever is doing it do as they wish. whatever comes out the other end will be wonderful, I have no doubt.

Yes! Will you post something for this first episode, Hugh?

I would have thought a sort of launch announcement might be good but seeing as we're hoping to do an episode every week won't it be overkill announcing it every time?
