Isolated beginnings

I used to get in trouble for reading after bedtime using the light that came in under the door. I was scolded and told I would ruin my eyes. I always said 'It won't ruin them, it will strengthen them!'

Now I'm the only one in the family who doesn't need glasses. Coincidence?

Oh, I was totally a loner geek bookworm type. I spent most of my free time, especially in middle school, buried in a book up in my room. Still am, to some extent. People ARE exhausting, aren't they?

The only people I don't find exhausting are the friends I've made doing amateur dramatics at the local theatre. I think it's because they're totally cuckoo, just like me.

It's funny... I often meet people who seem really great, and I know they'd make wonderful friends. But I just don't usually pursue it.

When I take Henry to a homeschooler park day, or something, I generally sit in the car and knit or read, while all the other mothers are chatting. They probably think I'm a snob or something, but oh well. Park Days are really just as much for the moms, so they can "connect" or whatever. But I don't want to "connect" :)

And another solitary bookworm here as well.
While the solitary part is by temperament, the bookworm did not happen by choice.
I had contracted rheumatic fever when I was ten and was confined to bed for more than six months. Thank God we had no television at that time and that is when I discovered and loved the world of books.
Talk about blessings in disguise, up to that point I was a mediocre student, after finding the richness of books, my knowledge, vocabulary and overall maturity got a boost which served me academically well into my college years.
The love of reading was so strong that I got in trouble repeatedly for reading during class in school.
