The LibriVox UK Chapter! Meeting to record... - continued

This is a continuation of the original thread because a software issue seems to be causing problems with very long threads and we don't want any messages to become unreadable until we can get it fixed.

(Edited to amend and commemorate my typo in the subject heading, which was 'The LlibriVox UK Chapter'. But of course, that's only the Welsh arm.)

Lucy and Phillippa, here's the Chekhov play that we did in Bath: Swansong. I rerecorded the three declamatory bits because the speeches we recorded were clipping too much. I've not noise-cleaned or normalised the file yet, though I did do some cleaning when I was editing .. and Lucy's going to record some odd words to insert into the stage directions.

We'd talked about Svietlovidoff overdoing them, to contrast with the gentler bits that he later spoke. I did rerecord them this way, but, thinking about it, I do think that he was supposed to make a good job of all the speeches he made, instead of that contrast. What do you think? As I probably said to you, I do find Shakespeare opaque and difficult to speak with any conviction or feeling, but I can give it a try.

A year on... :D

How do people feel about meeting up in the new year? It would be good to catch up, good to record again...

That could be fun. I'm in Sweden till the 11th of Jan, and I have a tutorial on Sat 14th, but after that I'm free any time.
I don't mind travelling or people are welcome to come to Bath again.

Yes, I'd be in again. I did think of setting it up at my flat for the beginning of this winter, but drifted past that point.

Suggestions for readings?

With the demands of work and child cover, I doubt I would be able to make it but I would be interested.

It's gone a bit quiet here. I'm up to hosting a meeting on Saturday the 9th of June. I live in Snaresbrook, to the north-east of London.

I already have one guest who I think will come, so I'd be happy to see up to four more readers ... ideally three.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions for what to read.

EDIT: I'll be out of touch until late next week.

Thanks, David,

We'll be here! I'll send you directions later, in case you haven't still got them.

Doesn't anyone else want to come?

David, would you mind if I try to find a Saturday when more of us can attend?

Not at all, Peter. That would be sensible...

That's great, Cori; we'll stick with the 9th June, then.

My other friend that would like to come has read for us before (Sarah, from where I work).

We can always fall back on Saki stories, but I'll start hopping around in Gutenberg for something else interesting.

EDIT: Sarah has suggested some E.F. Benson short pieces (he died in 1940). I'll list them when I get some names from her.

Would 11 a.m. be okay? ... to about four or five o'clock. I'll send the directions by P.M. Any dietary preferences? It'll be vegetarian, with cheese.
