Praise received for sjmarky (Mark Nelson) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Dear Sir,

I would like to thank you very much for your work.
During the last week, I took advantage of my holidays to listen "Princess of Mars" and "Monster men" from Edgar Rice Borrough that you kindly read for everyone’s benefits. No doubt, it was a good choice ! Your voice is very soothing and your pronunciation is very clear. You kept me listening until very late hours in the night. Since I am a foreigner, understanding another language is sometimes difficult depending on the accent and prononciation of the interlocutor. Yours is very good and easy to understand, your American accent is understandable (which is not always the case with native american speakers ;)
I will go on listening your work in the future and encourage non native English speakers to upload your work.
Once again, thank you !

with kind regards,
Marie-Laure (from France)
and...

Thank you, Mark Nelson. Once again you have provided me with several hours of fun, entertaining listening. The book was from 1962, Talents, Incorporated by Murray Leinster (https://librivox.org/talents-incorporated-by-murray-leinster/). I loved the story and the abilities of the various talents. This book made my time on the treadmill fly by. Thanks!

Praise received for Kaffen (Mark F. Smith) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Dear Mark,

This morning I completed The Swiss Family Robinson, which has accompanied me on my early morning walks through a township park. Thank you for your dedication to reading the book and placing it in LibriVox. Your voice was clear, slow enough to understand, and articulate. Obviously it was a sacrifice of time and effort. Thank you again.

Sincerely,
Sara

Praise received for philchenevert (Phil Chenevert) from our 'Thank a reader' feature regarding his recording of Project Mastodon:

Thank you, sir, for your very clear and engaging narration. I've enjoyed several librivox readers in the comfort of my home, but you are the first reader I've discovered who could read well enough to be heard over road noise, and so you helped me through a section of Idaho on my last big road trip. I will definitely collect more of your recordings before my next trip!

If you have any favorites that you wish to recommend, please feel free to email back to me.

Cheryl

Praise received for david wales (David Wales) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Mr. Wales - I enjoy your readings immensely, but so far my very favorite is "Cape Cod Stories"! The accent you use along with some of the expressions, e.g., "box that up in your forget-a-tory" is hilarious! I haven't read any of Joseph Lincoln's stories but if they're all like the "Cape Cod Stories" - PLEASE do more of them!! And I'd also like to hear you read any/all of O. Henry's works. Many thanks for lending your talents to Librivox!

Praise received for gloriana (Elizabeth Klett) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Good morning,

I wanted to send a HUGE thank you to Elizabeth Klett! I have been working on a month long data entry project at my work and listening to music was not enough to pass the time. I found Librivox through a random search and decided to listen to Pride and Prejudice, as I love the story but have never actually read the book itself. Elizabeth did an AMAZING job! She brought the characters to life and made this project much easier! I loved it so much that I had to listen to another one and chose Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl. Thank you, Elizabeth. Now I am addicted to audiobooks in the workplace, and I feel that I am much more productive in general!

Best,

Gisela
and...
Hello,

I would like to thank Elizabeth Klett. She is my, absolute, favorite reader.
She has such passion at what she does. You really feel what the characters are feeling.
The way that she gives each character a voice is so enjoyable.
I listen to her readings every day, only at work. She brings such life to the story that I have a hard time not putting it on during the weekends as well.
My only complaint is that I wish she had more books, to which I could listen.
Thank you very much, for speaking for the characters.

Sincerely,
Alex

Praise received for MrsHand (KHand) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Kay(e)?

Thank you for your reading Beacon Lights of History. It must be a labor of love because you are all alone and the volumes are long.

I wonder what motivated you to undertake this project, and how you knew about the book. I had never heard of John Lord, and could not have found him at all without your beneficial influence.

Dr. Lord does an admirable job of summarizing a huge swath of history. I learned a lot that I did not know, and was surprised at how much that I "knew," perhaps from osmosis or from the oral traditions of family and role models, that simply was not accurate or complete (read: fair.) From my perspective, the author strikes a good balance without concealing his personal beliefs.
You have performed a great service, and I hope that many, many people discover your performance of Beacon Lights. I like your voice, your confidence, and your interpretive expression.
Well done, and God bless John Lord and Kaye Hand.

I will be watching for Volume 7!

Praise received for Mermaid (Mil Nicholson) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Dear Mil Nicholson,

I have enjoyed listening to your reading of The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens.
The book is of course extremely well written, funny and entertaining by itself.
But your ‘thousand’ voices make the story also really come to life.
You give character to the protagonists of the story by impersonating them wonderfully.
Superb!

A grateful listener,

Tine

hi all,

this is probably not the right "thread" etc...

however, i'm sure someone can direct me etc.....

having "read " a book a week from librivox for the last ten years or so,
i'm embarrassed a tad, to say i haven't thanked individual readers for their
fine efforts and readings....

one book finishes, i move on to the next and then i'm immersed in that...

anyway,

last few weeks i've "read" ...the margaret de valois trilogy....

read very clearly by jon van stam ....

complicated stories .....long and winding....

but very very good.....
cheers jon.

and now ....
on saturday i finished listening to
War and Peace/ tolstoy

read by Mary Ann.....

the reading is excellent..the effort impressive....
but.........

the story itself is ...not as good as i thought it was gonna be,

characters make a book....

it's the learning of the characters that create for me, the interest,

imagine reading a book in which everyone was called ...
man 1
man 2
man 3
woman 1

etc etc...

in war and peace ..there's too many people

who is the hero etc...

i know not,

i know prince versailly
natasha
boris

and a couple of others...

but for me it was ....ok ish

bit like a soap opera on the tv...

good, but not compelling.

however.......
once i've started i might as well finish kinda thing....

and apparently.....after book 5... there's more

it did kind of finish a bit

"hmm so is that it...
what happened to so and so etc
"

Mary Ann,
your reading is lovely...
(i'm now listening to pilgrims progress,
then onto annakarenina)

does anybody else follow the readers en bloc...
i do...

any sign of book 6 the conclusion ...
of war and peace....... please ?

:)

Praise received for gloriana (Elizabeth Klett) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Good day

I wish to express much gratitude to one of your readers, Ms. Elizabeth Klett. I have recently completed Jane Eyre and really enjoyed her reading style and changing of voice for each character, particularly Adele and Mr. Rochester. It is the first time I have listened to a classic in many years and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Thank you very much Ms. Klett!

Kind regards

Praise received for the readers of the group project for The Origin of Species from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

This is my first exposure to LibriVox and I was really grateful to the readers who volunteered their time reading the pages of this book.

I enjoyed the brilliant discussion of the interactions between species in chapter three. I am not yet finished with the entire book, but I look forward to hearing the voices of the other readers in later chapters.

Well done!

Leslie

Praise received for Helsbelles (Helen Taylor) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Many thanks to Helen Taylor for her wonderful readings of Ada Lerson's 'Love's Shadow', 'Tenterhooks' and 'Love at Second Sight'. The sly humour of the books - brilliantly conveyed in the reading - has buoyed me up on many a grey day.

Susan

Praise received for Nicholas19 (Nicholas James Bridgewater) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Dear Mr. Bridgewater,

I am listening to your recording of "A Year Amongst the Persians" and have been so impressed by your voice, your rendering of Farsi, and your diction that I wanted to find a way to thank you. In looking you up on the internet, I came upon the LibriVox thank-you website.

I came across LibriVox through an article in the New York Times last year and have been so impressed with the selections and the readers that I have told all my friends and family, who are interested in books, about the site. I chose "A Year Amongst the Persians" because I have always been interested in my place of birth, Iran, though I came to the U.S. when I was five years old in 1947. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to visit so far, though I hope to one day. So the book you narrated seemed a wonderful way to gain knowledge of the country. I had heard of the author, but was surprised to learn about his interest in the Babi's. My mother's family is Bahai' and my father's Jewish, so it was fascinating for me to learn about the early converts, such as my great grandmother who managed a pilgrimage to Haifa.

I see that you have narrated many more books on LibriVox, which I will pursue because of my interest and your excellent recordings.

Thank you so much and best wishes to you and your family,

All of Nicholas' recordings!

Praise received for CariJS (Cari Shorrock) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Thank you very much for reading The Mystery at Dark Cedars. It is very clear and easy to listen to. And I love it when someone does "solo". I see that you are doing The Mystery of the Fires next and I hope that you will do all of the books in that series.

Thanks again.
