Praise received for beeber (Bruce Pirie) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Dear Mr. Pirie,

I would like to thank you for enriching my life. For the last few months I've been listening to your reading of Honore de Balzac's great novels.
I did it while running in the park or walking my dog in the streets of Beverly Hills. I was actually in Paris with you and with Cousin Betty and Josepha Mara.
I listened, one by one, to all the lost illusions. In short - you did a wonderful job. You invested so much talent and knowledge into the charecter's, you interpreted them so cleverly that from now on I won't be able to think of Balzac without hearing your voice---

In short - thank you!

Benny

Praise received for simonevers (Simon Evers) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:
To Simon Evers

I have just found you have recorded Clayhanger and many other English
books for Librivox. This is timely as the BBC series, currently on Radio
4, has given me the urge to reread the three Clayhanger books. As
someone who was previously dependent on Audible, who do some British
novels of the early 20th century, but few of the Arnold Bennett ones,
this has been a great find.

I have only read a few pages so far, but I am looking forward to many
happy hours listening to your voice. I am capable of reading the books
myself, I have copies of all three, but some problem from childhood
makes reading difficult for me. So my delight is to have the book open
and listen to someone else reading to me.

Many thanks Eric
and...
A delight! Thank you for your efforts. On my third book now, with many more sitting waiting!

Jim

Hi,
re. "Clayhanger" by Arnold Bennett
After hearing some of the amalgamated adaptation of several Arnold Bennett books that BBC radio are broadcasting, I wanted to revisit "Clayhanger" to find out what 'really happened'. I feel fortunate that I was able to download a book so expertly read. Simon Evers voice is comfortable to listen to. He changes between the different voices without a hitch. I could not have asked for anything better. I am delighted to find that I can move on to "Hilda Lessways" and continue to listen to him.
I am very grateful.

Praise received for Adrian (Adrian Praetzellis) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:
Many thanks for this and indeed all your other efforts (I have several Zangwills ready to go) - well done for sustaining the different character accents throughout. We thoroughly enjoyed Treasure Island on a long drive through France. I've never managed to read the book, probably because I was given it far too young in one of those dreadful cheap editions that stingy aunts cleared their consciences with each Christmas. You've corrected my persistent failure.

Kind regards,

Alan

Dear Mr. Mallone,

I am in Australia, and love hearing you read Georgics book IV.

I belong to a small U3A group ( University of the third Age ) which studies this text.

The readings help me pronounce the vowel sound lengths a lot more correctly.

I especially like the section about Proteus and the floppy seals.

Thank you so much Helen Taylor for the reading of Vanity Fair (version 2). https://librivox.org/vanity-fair-version-2-by-william-makepeace-thackeray/

You read splendidly! Like an actress you interpreted every character, and made the audience easily follow the often long sentences of Thackeray.

Thank you again!

Peter,

I have been collecting and researching and selling series books for more than 30 years. I have long known about LibriVox.org but have not had occasion to listen to a book-length work from it until recently. I'm working on a presentation about adventure series for boys where I am profiling about a dozen series. I noticed on Archive.org that a few of your LibriVox recordings for the Biff Brewster series by "Andy Adams" (a collective pseudonym) were available. The earliest one I found was The Mystery of the Chinese Ring (1960) so I started with that.

When people have mentioned LibriVox to me, it usually comes with the proviso that the quality of volunteer readers can vary widely. As such, I didn't know what to expect. I was pleased with this one and found it very easy to listen to. I detected a few British-style pronunciations but not a British accent. This was actually fitting for these stories which are set in exotic locales.

Now I see that you have a couple other volumes from the series available so I'll go back to volume 1, The Brazilian Gold Mine Mystery, before advancing to volume 3, The Hawaiian Sea Hunt, and volume 7, The Mystery of the Ambush in India.

I looked into the copyright status for the series. As it turns out, the copyrights for the entire series were not renewed (until the automatic renewals began) so any of the volumes published between 1960 and 1963 in the series are available for public domain recordings like this. That is basically volumes 1 through 10. Probably not all of these are on Gutenberg.org. However, if you want any of the others, I have electronic copies of them.

If you want to look at other public domain adventure stories for young people (but enjoyed by nostalgic adults), I have several others you might consider and which I can provide in PDF or similar electronic form.

I am writing a Series Book Encyclopedia and other reference works on juvenile series books. I want to say again that it was very pleasant to listen to your recording of The Mystery of the Chinese Ring while I worked on other tasks. I look forward to when I can listen to more of them.

James

Hi

Thanks for passing this on. Is it possible for me to email him as he has said he has copies of other PD books in the series that I may (possibly) want to record at some point?

Sorry, I realised after posting that I should probably have replied to you by a PM!

Praise received for ahab (Stewart Wills) from our 'Thank a reader' feature:

Dear Stewart Wills,

We just finished listening to your Moby Dick and must thank you. My husband was diagnosed with vascular dementia and it has affected his sight. Our son researched getting him an audio of his very favorite novel, Moby Dick, which he has read several times over his 78 years. Your reading of it was par excellence. My husband thoroughly enjoyed every chapter. He and I were both impressed with the clarity, energy, and portrayal of the characters. We always knew who was talking and how they felt. Thank you for giving both of us this gift.
