Are there enough members (or members plus amenable family/friends?), living close enough together, to get together occasionally for recording sessions?

Of course I'm thinking of London, because that's where I live, and I would happily host such a session if there was an appetite for it. Bt anywhere would work if there were enough people close enough to travel to it.

Imagine a Sunday afternoon-into-evening, a group of say 6 to 8 people and a microphone. Some non-crunchy food. (I have teeth, but crunchy food is notoriously noisy). Perhaps working on a dramatic work, or a story with different voice parts. Or perhaps a poetry collection. Or each just bringing his/her own pieces, but getting pleasure from reading to friendly and encouraging faces.

Wouldn't that be nice? And productive?

To see if the idea has legs, would anyone interested post here?

Where are you? How far might you travel? How often (if at all) might you like to do this?

As a Londoner myself that sounds like a neat idea, although I don't know if i'd be able to record with other people around :S (and yet I used to be able to do plays fine) guess its something I'd have to learn.

I'm outside London, but would happily travel in fortnightly or monthly, as long as the venue was respectably close to a station (15 mins walk radius perhaps). Sundays much easier to manage than Saturdays. Not-too-late finishes ideal.

I like the idea of working on different things each time ... plays are fun, but recording Pomes or misc. Sections would also be cool. Themed short stories for an almost instant Collection..?

Reading in front of people definitely gives a different feel to a recording, I'm not sure how I'd take to it until I try it, but it would be more spontaneous and much easier to edit, since repetition is less likely.

Wow, this is sounding more and more like the "Inklings" With Tolkien and Lewis. Two of my favorite authors.

Hmm maybe I could make it once every ten years.

Once the group is up and running, we could indeed coordinate with people who are here on visits. That would be fun....

Yes, I'm fine for this .. and can host. It'd be interesting to choose works which are appropriate to the number of readers. We could also encourage each other to play with our voices .. thinking of it, perhaps LV could have a wiki collection of audition pieces in different voices and accents?

Yup - be very interested. Not sure I could manage anything as frequent as monthly, particularly in the first half of the year, but I like the idea. London would be fine for me - I don't think my other half would be too impressed at a LV invasion!

I'd also be very interested. I couldn't manage monthly - like alexfoster I'd be coming from Nottingham, and it takes a fair amount of time travelling (not to mention the cost) but it's definitely worth doing every now and then.

As long as it's neither first nor second saturdays of the month.

It's a great idea. It would be highly unlikely I'd ever make it to London hosted stuff though. I'm in Cheshire and although I'm in London on business on a regular basis I nearly always go and come back in a day. If the occasional opportunity arose though then I'd love to visit as a guest. It's an attractive idea, but London is a no-no for me. I live in north Shropshire, on the Welsh border, and might be interested in a local group (north Wales, Shropshire, Cheshire maybe), should numbers ever grow to that extent, but not otherwise.

Looks like Plum Hill and Jestermedia are close enough to get together over there.

We seem to have most of the concentration around London so it makes sense to meet in or near London.
We could even move the hosting around to add a little variety but should mostly keep it in or near London.
Like many I can't get to London too often mainly because of cost but I could certainly do it every two months and occasionally the month inbetween.
Sundays are good for me.

David - are you offering to be default host ?

'Default' might be putting it a bit strongly, but I'm certainly happy to be the first host. I'm in southeast London, easy to get to by train or underground. For some reason I think Peter is north-ish. One or other venue will suit some better than others.

I'll look at my diary over the weekend and propose a date, probably half-term.

Thinking further on this, it will work well even with a small number of people. Even 2 or 3 people together could do some good work, and hopefully enjoy it too. The trick would be to find appropriate material to record. That means that those who can't make a particular date or venue needn't feel bad about it. (I was planning to make them feel really bad, y'see

).

Oh, and I notice there's quite a little cell in Nottingham...
