All right, guys. NOW IS THE TIME to revive the late lamented Boom-de-ya-da version of the LibriVox song. I want you all to record the chorus - as many boom-de-ya-das as possible... right to the end. I haven't carried on boom-de-ya-da-ing to the end, but I want you to.

You don't even have to be able to sing! I don't care, as long as it is in time.

Here is the MP3: http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/rg/ilovelibrivox1.mp3

This is the effect I would love to get: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5BxymuiAxQ

Lots and lots and LOTS of different voices

Call your file ilovelibrivox_yourinitials.mp3. Upload it to my folder rg - RuthieG by Monday night (British time) and I will edit them all together to send to Cori on Tuesday.

This is how you do it:

1. Import the accompaniment MP3 into Audacity.
2. In Edit | Preferences, tick the box that says "Play other tracks while recording new one"
3. Click record and sing along while listening using headphones. Put the playback sound down low so that it doesn't get recorded with your voice.
4. Now you should have two tracks. When you are happy with it, just delete the accompaniment track, and export your voice track as an MP3.
5. Don't forget to uncheck the Playthrough box when you have finished.

I like recording
I love the microphone
I like to listen
On my drive back home
I love the forums
When the lights are low

Boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da

I love the drama,
I like the poetry
I like to stay up late
Until it's nearly three
I just love Librivox
There're always friends I know

Boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da

I like researching
Through the Public Domain
To find old treasures that
I can revive again
I like the blooper thread
When the world is slow

Boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da

But now we need you
Cos our funds are low
The server costs a lot
And we ain't got no dough
If you can help us
We'll all be thrilled you know

Boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da, boom-de-ya-da
I AM WAITING!

Thanks!
Are we supposed to sing the whole thing or just the boom de ya das?
Sorry I'm a bit slow on Sundays

Sing/shout/speak as much of it as you like! :) I will edit all the best bits together.

Fun idea, Ruth! I'll send you a PM with the link to my contribution (too shy about my singing to put the link here :D).

Thought: call me optimistic, but I have a feeling that we are already very close to our goal - how about writing an alternative last verse with a kind of "thank you" or celebration instead of asking for donations, so we can still broadcast & use the song even after this donation drive has been completed?

Hehe... I will do that, just in case. :)

How about the last verse:
And so we asked you
If you could help us out.
We needed money
Of that there was no doubt
And you donated
All twenty thousand bucks
and then instead of all the boom-de-ya-das at the end:
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you...
But I need LOTS MORE PEOPLE especially for the boom-de-ya-das and thank yous - men as well. You don't have to sing - you can speak it! You can do funny voices, anything.

I think it's an urgent requirement that we get at least one rendition done Shatner-style ... c'mon chaps, who's up for it?

I'm popping my versions into your folder, Ruth -- if you wouldn't mind just autotuning the bits that I couldn't get right no matter how many times I tried, that'd be fab, thanks!

My husband's a musician and loves singing, I might convince him to register and sing along. That will probably be his only recording ever (we just have one computer and it's MINE! ) but I think I can get him to it!

OK, I didn't follow your melody on the public domain portion, but if that part is not good, you can use my voice on a different part. 8-)

No noise cleaning or anything done - just the raw recording.

And here's a very cheesy, somewhat Shatner-like, somewhat Dylan-like version - spoken, not sung:

I messed up the boom-de-a-da's at the end, but I think I added enough you could use if you choose to do so.

I've done a version and will get it to you by the end of tonight, but dear lord even singing along with your tune, my voice is dire. I couldn't hear myself when singing, but playing it back it sounds dreadful. You may just want my boom-de-yadas.
So little space, so much to say.
