I've set up an uploader so that I can more widely share my server space. This will mostly be for non Internet Explorer users, because it doesn't seem to work right in Internet Explorer. You may be able to change your security options and get it to work, but I don't know how. If you do, please tell me how you did it.

The password is for uploading and deleting. Please only delete your own recordings when your MC has downloaded it. Alternatively, you can ask your MC to delete the file for you once they've downloaded it.

I have the same program set up on my webspace. Same notations apply:

Kri and Laura,

May I reference your tools in my book coordination post for Sense and Sensibility?

Thanks,
Michelle

Sure thing, at least with mine.

I think BCs should be able to use these no problem, although I'd suggest picking just one for your coordination post to make things easier for yourself, so you won't have to go two places for your files.

As long as the users link to the MP3 fike (they shoudl, like they do with yousendit) that shouldn't be a problem.

Feel free to use mine for any LibriVox recordings. I'll keep an eye out and see if I can't handle the load, although no one's used it yet.

Great Job Kri and Fox! A very very good addition to Librivox, imo.

How many of these tools have we running already on different servers? Yours two?
We should probably sticky a How-to for other administrators to set one up. If more people set one up, we will get a good list of available alternative upload spaces with this tool running. Great!

Those "Librivox Upload Tools Spaces" are criing out for a cool name to handle them.

The List of....LibriSpaces - I have set up another LibriSpace - Put your book on one of our LibriSpaces ???
Give your babies a name. :D

I'm glad you're excited Stephan :) You can thank Rainer, because he found the script and translated it for us. Rainer has one set up, and I'm not sure who else. I'm going to leave it to other people to choose to make their uploading space public.

As far as a how-to, it's really simple. Perhaps I shall set something up in the future. However, it is important to note that anyone sets such a system up does so at their own risk and responsibility.

Then thanks even more to Rainer.
The security risk came to my mind at once too. How secure is the password protection in it? it is possible that there are hostile scripts out there just combing the internet for this very tool and exploiting all the server-spaces it can find. But i have no idea of this stuff.

I'm personally not too worried about it Stephan. It seems to be an obscure script, and LibriVox is not exactly a big target. I'm not sure how secure the password is, but I'm ok enough to use it. I just say what I said above so no one says "LibriVox f---d up my site!!"

Hello Stephan,

this script is open source, therefore I don't think it's intention is to harm. It's free for personal use and they only demand a link to the original web page. I am no professional in programming, but I think you know something about it. You can find the (translated) script here:
www.librivox.prolegomena.org/librivox_uploader.zip
and the orginial one here:
http://www.coder-world.de/cw/seite__pagewebdesignupload.html
If you have too much spare time you can take a look at it, check it for security and perhaps think of some improvements. Perhaps a direct upload to different project folders with a separate password each? This is really not intended as a "don't criticise, do it yourself" comment, but meant seriously. But don't feel pushed, only if you have time...

By the way: here is my LibriSpace/LibriBox (both really good names, Uploader is a little bit boring)

password to upload: public

Sorry, but i have noooo idea of programming. I wasn't critisizing, i was just painting a picture of pirates who speacialized on finding this script running on foreign servers, hack into them easily because they know a way to exploit this very script, and use yours and mine webspace for their purposes. I don't think either, that the script itself is malicious as it is opensource.
Oh well, i would say "lets risk it" and if something bad happens one can still react.

I guess I'm not entirely sure what this is for? Just a name for our uploaders??
