I have not been able to find the information by searching on the catalog but could you post a top 20 list of the authors that have been most read and a list of the books that have the most versions.

Thanks

I don't think there is any way of finding that information, I'm afraid.

Not easily, anyway. Someone could probably download the entire LV catalog and run statistics on it oneself. It would be tedious, though. :)

Some of our APIs are not working currently, though. The .csv version should work OK if you want to try.

In April, we cataloged 94 books! Here are the other numbers:

Total number of projects 6121
Number of completed projects 5555
Number of completed non-English projects 806
Total number of languages 34
Number of languages with a completed work 32
Number of completed solo projects 2478
Number of readers 5063
...who have completed something 4920

Our total number of books cataloged in 2012 right now is 379, 12 of which were already cataloged in May. These are the numbers per year:

2005 30
2006 358
2007 726
2008 884
2009 1018
2010 1076
2011 1084
2012 379

The closest I can come to this, from the top of my head, is the most downloaded titles:

Oh my. If we keep the pace of up to April, we'll make 500 more books than any previous year. Also, I am totally in love with the fact that the yearly numbers have always gone up!

Umm, I think your math is off. :hmm:

379-12 (books cataloged in May) = 367
End of April is 1/3 of the way through the year, so
367*3=1101

If we keep the same pace, we'll be at 1101 books at the end of the year. That's not 500 more than previous years, but still an increase. :)

I typo'd my calculator. I hit x4 instead of x3. Well if we had 16 months in the year, it would work out perfectly :D

I'll still take the increase!

A catalogue search for 'version' in the title and 'complete' status will give you this. And it looks like a pretty good view of the popular authors.

Here it is...

Very clever indeed David :D . It only works for books too long to be in collections though - there are 7 versions of the Velveteen Rabbit not 2 , as 5 are in collections and many short stories have many repeats - there are 16 versions of "The Tell Tale Heart" for example and I am sure there are other examples

The number of versions for shorter shories may be difficult to calculate for the reason annise gave, but the longer ones are easier to find. As far as I can tell after going through the list the record seeme to be 5 Jane Austen has a real army of devoted fans here  There was something that got me thinking, though. The list shows 4 versions of "Christmas Carol", all in English. Not a trace of a Polish translation recorded a few months ago... Am I missing something?
