I thought: OMG! Of course!
We all read about using nosesprays, clear nose, brush teeth, use camomilla tea, do larynx warm-ups etc. etc. etc.
What i have never read here on librivox, as far as i recall, is so simple:
Looking up, pointing your nose high does help greatly. It's Just like you can see singers in the recording studios croon high into the mic, or you can see radio-moderators have their mic above them.
...WHY did i never do it? (not that i read a lot already, anyway) But why? It seems like such a basic recording technique.
Because i was looking straight at the screen, or i had my script liing in front of me, at the worst holding it in my hands.
Now i held the script slightly above me, just like looking at the next houses roof, read, and it sounded clearer and deeper. At least in my throat the airflow is getting more open.
It's not on the wiki - shall i add it to "improve your recordings"?

For testing btw, i did something silly, which funny as it was WORKED too. I put a blanket over me and read like Bastian Bux at the libraries attic in the Neverending Story.
It sounded more padded, soft, reverb gone. Quite audible. The simple version to padding your studios walls with blankets.
another tip for a better timbre

Those are goood tips, Stephan! Go ahead and add them to the wiki... somewhere :) It's very very cold in my house -- I will try the blanket technique tomorrow! (it might also muffle my noisy family)

You're absolutely right. It never occured to me because it was so basic. I have my computer screen above my head, so I always look up to read.Stephan wrote:Looking up, pointing your nose high does help greatly.
