Most of them we already had... :?

But since you are here and know almost all of the plays in the catalog by heart: What about a play set in ... place X?

(No, Verona with Romeo and Juliet doesn't count.)
Cheers, Ava.

I remember I was PLing a Solo about travel through East Anglia a while ago, which I liked very much :) Maybe that would fit in here.

Have we had https://librivox.org/the-wheels-of-chance-by-h-g-wells/ ?
The Wheels of Chance - A Bicycling Idyll follows the adventures of a Drapers Assistant who, having brought an ancient bicycle, sets off on a 2 week tour of the countryside. And his world will never be the same again.
and yes I wrote the summary , but the book was one I rescued way back

https://librivox.org/an-inland-voyage-by-robert-louis-stevenson/

As a young man, Stevenson wished to be financially independent and began his literary career by writing travelogues. This is his first published work, written at a time when travel for pleasure was still a rarity. He and a friend traveled by canoe through France and Belgium and he relates how they were thrown in jail, mistaken for traveling salesmen and became embroiled in gypsy life

Sadly, many plays don't seem to care or comment about location much - at least not so that it makes much impact on me. Sticking to interior scenes makes it easier to stage, I guess.

There is The Inspector General where a traveler from St Petersburg visits a small town in Russia: https://librivox.org/the-inspector-general-by-nikolai-vasilievich-gogol/

A place you definitely do not want to visit is The Castle Spectre: https://librivox.org/the-castle-spectre-by-matthew-lewis/

Not a play, but the book that contains The Dreaded Sentence With Twenty Volcano Names (TDSWTVN) that stopped me in my tracks for weeks when I was new to Librivox: https://librivox.org/the-andes-and-the-amazon-by-james-orton/ (TDSWTVN is around 12:15-12:30 or so)

Thanks, Todd

Through the Brazilian Wilderness

https://librivox.org/through-the-brazilian-wilderness-by-theodore-roosevelt/

I read for this early in my Librivox career and had to ask for lots of pronunciation help.
Men's names: Telles Peres, Paixao Paishon, Pedrinho, Trigueiro
Creatures: piums, boroshudas, piraiba, jacare-tinga
City: Itacoatiara
Rivers: Castanho, Aripuanan
The only one that has stuck with me is jacare-tinga. I love the musical sound of it, but it is so very hard to work into a sentence in English conversation. :P

Along the motorcar theme, how about https://librivox.org/free-air-by-sinclair-lewis/ :?:

Enjoyed this one a lot: https://librivox.org/beasts-men-and-gods-by-ferdinand-ossendowski/

https://librivox.org/kim-by-rudyard-kipling/

https://librivox.org/the-admirable-crichton-by-j-m-barrie/ is a play, with a shipwreck in it that throws the whole established social order into chaos.

How about putting the archive.org link on the homepage of LV? If you're not looking for a particular book, the recommendations, and even the "most popular downloads" could be very handy and open our minds to new things that maybe we've never even heard of...

Ava adds a 'Staff Pick' post to the home page at the beginning of every month, with 10 selections she chooses from our suggestions. Look on the right hand side. This month's was called "Feed Me".

Oh, oops. I usually browse on my smartphone, and the title of the section is " news" so it didn't occur to me that this is where the recommendations would be.

However, the statistics page has more options like the "most viewed" section: books one had read 30 years ago and needs a reminder of their existence, books one had been planning to read 30 years ago and had forgotten all about them (I have plenty of those)...

This one might work: https://librivox.org/vagabonding-down-the-andes-by-harry-a-franck/

Edit: Sorry, I didn't notice the date. Travel recommendations are finished.

The staff picks for travel were posted June 1st. Availle (it is her, right? I can't scroll back that far in this reply window) has had an attack of RealLife, so she hasn't posted what this month's theme will be.

It might end up being a 2-month theme, posted in August. :)

EDIT: Just saw your edit. ;)

Sorry for disappearing - as Tricia said, I had an attack of "Real Life", but it has normalised for now, so let's start staff picking again!

The staff has picked for June - there were so many books, especially non-fiction that I had a hard time to choose! We'll have to do this some time again!
Please have a look at this page for the current list. You can also check out our wiki page for a plain vanilla list that contains all the staff picks for this year plus the readers!

The theme for next month will be

Of Crimes of Passion...

I am happy about all suggestions concerning crimes / romances / sleuthing / locked room mysteries / love, lost and found / detectives, real and imagined / eternal love / ...
This is a summer theme, obviously, so I'd like to keep it on the lighter side if possible ;-)

Especially welcome are suggestions of plays and poetry.

Thanks for your help! :D
Cheers, Ava.
