You could put something Halloweeny at the end of the month.

Hi

I'd like to suggest the marvellous Tadhg (THynes) for inclusion in the next Staff Picks. His solo version of Hardy's The Woodlanders fits the theme, in a literalist way, I suppose - http://librivox.org/the-woodlanders-by-thomas-hardy-2/

Best,
Martin

I was thinking about that, actually, but we have only one piece with Hallowe'en in the title, and it was specifically finished for last year's Halloween, and it was a staff pick then already...

Would anyone else like to go and read something Halloweeny, say, in the next three weeks, so we can put up something new?

There's always The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Doesn't get much more Halloweeny than that

I shall try to arrange some thematic weekly poems.
So little space, so much to say.

I was thinking of this one: http://librivox.org/second-april-by-edna-st-vincent-millay/

It's a collection by Edna St. Vincent Millay, and it has one poem 'The Death of Autumn'. What do you think? (I'm not very big on poetry either...)

Keats also has an 'Autumn' poem, but everybody knows him, right?

Oh my, what did you get yourself into? I think it sounds good.

There's a famous sonnet by Shakespeare ---#73---that begins

That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang

I believe it's been recorded multiple times by Librivox volunteers---I wouldn't presume to pick a favorite though.

The staff has picked for October 2010 - thanks for your suggestions on such a short notice. Please have a look at this page for the current list. You can also check out the wiki page to find out why I chose the books that are on the list...

On to the next endeavors: The theme for November 2010 is

Fogs of November

I'd be happy about suggestions referring to ghosts/horror/Halloween/anything else November related... Thanks for your help!

Hey that is great! If I had more time, I would listen to some. Great suggestions!

The last 2 sections of this one ( la Vénus d'Ille ) are a creepy story... but in French.
There's a November Guest.
This speech apparently is from November 1863
And then some Thanksgiving things...

Thanks Esther! Well, you don't have to listen to everything in October of course. The problem with procrastinating with this is just that it will be very hard to catch up...

Thanks Nadine for your suggestions - I see you're getting the hang of it very quickly! I have seen the poem by Frost (good name too!) but there are also a couple dead poets in November... We'll see.

I have read the synopsis of Venus d'Ille (on wikipedia) - it seems to be a great creepy story indeed... I'd like to actually read it - is there an English version somewhere online or do I have to try and put my French together again?

Good choices! Some have gone onto my 'To Listen' list.
So little space, so much to say.
