Hello Ava,

I just discovered this thread and I would like to help, so here are my suggestions:

Jack London, The Call of the Wild
Chapter 5, The Toil of Trace and Trail, is about the hard life of sled dogs
http://ia802702.us.archive.org/7/items/call_of_the_wild/call_of_the_wild_5-6_london.mp3

Charles Dickens, Bleak House
Ch. 57, Esther's Narrative is the story of a search for a missing mother in the middle of a winter night and one of the highlights in this book

Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace (Maude Translation), book 10, is about Napoleon's winter campaign in 1812

Macauly's History of England, ch. 18, deals with the massacre of Glencoe of 13th February 1692, which took place in the middle of a scottish highland winter.
Thirty-eight men from Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were killed by government forces billeted with them on the grounds they had not been prompt in pledging allegiance to the new monarchs, William III and Mary II. Another forty women and children later died of exposure after their homes were burned. (wikipedia)

PS:
there is a lot of snow in Eugen Onegin by Pushkin, also ice skating - as a metaphore for troublesome love, I wonder?
russian: https://librivox.org/eugene-onegin-by-alexander-pushkin/

and speaking of ice skating I remembered Anna Karenina, where there is a lovely love scene between Levin and Kitty on the skating rink, it is in chapter 9:

We currently have a group project Pantropheon, which is pretty much the history of food (particularly Romans, Greeks, Biblical times) and we are so close to finishing... but I doubt we'll be done by the end of the month

I think that Wodehouse's Aunt Agatha bribes Bertie Wooster with her chef Anatole's heavenly cooking to get him to go along with her schemes in many of the Jeeves' stories.

If you wanted something in which eating (and drinking) goes on , often with surprising results , then there is Alice in Wonderland ?
