Like Phil implied, remember to remove your mic from the dishwasher before it starts. We must find other ways to avoid recording trashy novels.
HA! Trashy novels are SOOOO much fun though. That's why I soak mine in alcohol after a steamy sex scene. Never use the dishwasher.

I have heard that if a lapel mic is accidentally tossed into a dishwasher or washing machine, it will begin to sing as soon as the machine starts filling with water.

I hope one of the items discussed will be what types of mics are best for different sources...desktops, ipads, cell phones, whatever. It should be a good discussion. I'm looking forward to it.

So funny!

We'll put your list of recording sources on the list of questions. Thanks!

I am looking for LibriVoxers who would be willing to host a monthly group session for new people. The idea I am playing with is to have a regularly scheduled group LibriVox zoom or Google Meet session that would meet in two time zones, say on the last Wednesday of each month. Or whatever. The commitment would be for at least six months so that people could learn about it and count on it being there.

If you have a Zoom account that is great but if not, you could use mine as host. Actually I will be using Google Meet which requires no account at all. I am just testing the water here but it would seem a good way to encourage new members, a platform to talk about their problems, ask for advice, and just share with others about LibriVox. We old timers know all about LibriVox, but can be bewildering to novices.

I'd like someone in Europe or Australia so that time zones can be offered. So what do you say? I already know that everyone reading this is a helpful volunteer at heart so think about it. All ideas, opinoons, objections and stuff are welcome. The objective would be to have a regularly scheduled zoom or Google Meet session every month in several time zones. Feeling adventurous? :D Image

EDIT: I tried Google Meet and love it. thanks!

Unlike most taxi drivers, I am short on "opinoons" but I would be willing to help out. Google Meet would be fine.
My local time zone is GMT plus 8 hours (all the year round - the weather is so good here that we don't need daylight saving.)

Cheers

Thanks Algy, you would be perfect as a host and for your time zone. Do you have any feelings of when in the month like first FFriday, Second Sunday, etc and also what time of day would be convenient for you?

"Opinoons" are actually very rare so I'm not surprised you are short on them. :D

As I am an early bird these days, 7.00 am (my time) would suit me any days except Tuesday or Thursday.

Good. For the next six months, starting in December 2021, the first Monday in each month will be Librivox Beginner Google Meet day. I will do it at 6 pm central time. What time does that make yours? Hopefully it give us a nice time spread.
EDIT: It may be called beginners group, but naturally everyone is invited.

7:00 am Perth (Monday) is
11:00 pm (Sunday) in London or
5:00 pm (Sunday)

so there is little time difference.

What if I move my session to 11 am, that is about 7 hours earlier and you kept yours at 7 am Perth on Monday. That should give us a nice spread. Where are our time zone wizards when I need them ?
