thank you everyone, solution in this thread here: viewtopic.php?p=1890025#p1890025

Hello, I hope this is ok to ask here. Please feel free to advise if not!

I had downloaded an audiobook, accidentally deleted it, and am looking for it again. It's a story that takes place in the early 20th century (perhaps) of a career lady in waiting (governess) who moves to an remote estate in upstate NY to take care of a woman. Her ornery husband is in the house only occasionally.

Would anyone remember what story this was?

Appreciate any assistance! Thank you D

This is as good a place as any. :) I did also post it in our Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/46088852996/

It was definitely a LV book? And do you know anything about the reader(s)? (Solo or group? Male or female?) Anything else to try to narrow it down...
Serial novel: The Wandering Jew
Medieval England meets Civil War Americans: Centuries Apart
Humor: My Lady Nicotine

Thanks for your quick reply...it was solo reads (not a dramatic reading), different readers for each chapter I believe but to be honest I'm not sure on that detail.

One other detail is that the woman was scarred by typhoid.

I've done a fair bit of Googling as well but my search terms don't seem to hit it.

It was definitely an LV book, as this is my only place for audio books...thanks again!

Hi Sonia, thanks for this! It's unfortunately not the book I was thinking of but it looks interesting.

I'll have to try to figure out more details in order to narrow my search.

Appreciate your time!

How long ago did you delete it? Do you know which drive or memory stick it was on? There's a free program called Recuva which will scan a drive for all the deleted files and display them. Even if not recoverable, you may be able to get the file name.

Could the story that you are looking for be: "The Lady's Maid's Bell"?

The summary on IMDB of an Edith Wharton ghost story seems to fit:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0369648/reviews

The story was included in this Librivox audiobook:

https://librivox.org/the-descent-of-man-and-other-stories-by-edith-wharton/

Chapter 4

Hope this helps.

Steve, this is it! Thank you so much for this. Will download again. I'm a big fan of Nicholas Clifford's reading as well as Edith Wharton's stories.

My mistake (and what was snagging my googling no doubt) was incorrectly remembering it as a novel.

Really appreciate your time on this
