Recently, I've been running into problems with Audacity. Today, when I tried to record, this is what popped up:
Error opening recording device. Error code: - 9997 Invalid Sample Rate

Does anyone know how to fix this? I have no idea what this means. It also gave me this URL: file:///Applications/Audacity.app/Contents/help/manual/man/error_opening_sound_device.html

Thanks for your help.

If you have an external mic, try plugging it in before you open Audacity. Alternately, go to Transport>Rescan Audio Devices, and after you do that make sure the correct mic is still selected. This has happened for me if I have plugged in my mic with Audacity open.

Ok, I do have an external mic, and it isn't plugged in. Thanks so much, I'll try this and see if it works when I have the external mic.

it is essential to plug the microphone in before opening Audacity - it hunts for a microphone as it opens up, and you either get that message or finish up recording on the internal microphone if it has one (which is even more confusing if it is poor quality and you record a long chapter :( )

Yeah, I have two microphones, one including the built in mic, and I only record when the other one is plugged in. I guess I forgot to plug it in today.

Did you try the Transport>Rescan Audio Devices method?

So when you have Audacity open, Look at the very top of your screen. You should see a bunch of menu items (for example Audacity, File, Edit, Select, View, etc.). There should be one that says Transport. When you have your mic plugged in, click on that, which should open up a list of many more selections. Click on the option that says Rescan Audio Devices. Then make sure that Audacity is recognizing the correct mic. DOes that help?

Nice, I'm glad that worked. Maybe that mic has a problem? No idea. What matters is that it works. Happy recording!
