Hi-- I'm using Audacity 2.2.2 and there is no "Leveller" (or "Leveler") in the drop-down menu under effects. Is there a work around?
Thanks much
Leveller

What is a leveler supposed to do? Can you describe a bit what you're trying to accomplish? Just from the name and a complete guess, I wonder if maybe the compressor would do what you want?

Yeah, I'd recommend the compressor (with the "normalize to 0 dB" box unchecked), then amplifying. (The "Normalize to 0 dB" does amplify, but amplifying yourself gives you control over how much to amplify).
Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ3lOTDsN6c
My default settings are as follows:
Threshold: -23 to -13 dB (depending on how much or little you need - -23 will compress more; -13 will compress less)
Noise Floor: -40 dB
Ratio: 2.5:1 or 3:1
Attack: 0.2
Decay: 1.0
