One of our readers would like to read Pride and Prejudice in Spanish (Orgullo y prejuicio). Unfortunately, the source she has located was published in 1924. http://bdh-rd.bne.es/viewer.vm?id=0000180660&page=1

I wonder if some of LV volunteers with a talent for research can help us look for a source text published before 1923 so that it's clearly PD in the US.

Thanks!

It would wonderful to have this book in the catalogue!

Searching very quickly, I haven't been able to find a pre-1923 translation. One may exist, and I hope somebody finds it!

If an older translation proves impossible to find, there may be another solution. If the reader lives in a life +70 or life +50 country, she could opt to read it for Legamus. The Spanish National Library obviously believes the book to be PD or they wouldn't have put the scan online. From a quick search, the translator's dates (1868-1932) would not pose a problem. (I found a short page about him at http://www.filosofia.org/ave/001/a132.htm, and his translation of Austen is near the bottom of the page, if you need to check.) I realise this doesn't help with recording for Librivox, but it might be worth considering if no other translation can be found.
