I'm giving a presentation on LV at an International Conference on Education in Hawaii.

Here is the brief PowerPoint presention that I will use as a springboard out onto the Internet ...

Suggestions are welcome before January 7, when I present. Hope you enjoy parts of it!

Hi Denny, looks good. I did notice a rogue parenthese on the What's Librivox page in the last point. Also the alignment of the picture on the School-based Research on Modeled Reading page looks a bit wonky. (I'm not using powerpoint to view it though, so it may be my display.)

Very Cool Denny:

As an elementary teacher, my number 1 question when I go to workshops is: Can I use these ideas in my classroom? How?

The answer in your presentation for me is:
Reading-while-listening is the most efficient way to assist readers’ transition to fluency (Dowhower, 1987; Rasinksi, 1990).
We do alot of choral reading, reading of songs, and reading while listening in my grade 2 classroom. This statement affirms why I do this.

Denny,

I'm working on a response to this
but before I do what needn't be done?
Is this the basic presentation?

I believe Kristin's referring to slide 4.

My philosophy of PowerPoint is that it is a springboard. I don't do 90 slides, I did 14, with lots of links and audio, where I improvise.

That's cool. Glad to hear it. The content, as you need it is very good. I like your minimalist approach.

My philosophy is that PP is the bane of presentations, on multiple levels. (And yes, I'm very much a follower of Edward Tufte although I battle with people daily who sorely believe their presentations are pleasing to the eye or that they need gimmicks.) But that's not what I had to say. I just had a few suggestions on design, including color choice and spacial settings. Unfortunately don't have much time beyond a little and looks as if you've got things under control. Very good. Good luck with it! And it's great that you're geting to promote LV in that setting. Have fun while you're there as well!
