OH MY! THANK YOU SOOOOO much! That was perfect! I don't think I'll be able to do it exactly right, but at least now I'll have a good basis to work with! I appreciate that!
Thanks again!
btw, it's a good thing you did this I was thinking the oui was something like "ow" lol.

My pleasure, Kim.
You'd have said "wow" instead of "oui"/"yes."

Hello all,
I'm doing a solo recording of 'The Virginians' which contains a section that has about a dozen lines in French from the play "Tartuffe". My french pronunciation is abominable and I was hoping I could get someone to record those lines for me, or perhaps provide a phonetic 'translation' that I could just read. I've tried using online resources to help me with pronunciation but it's a lost cause.
Here's a link to the chapter:
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/8123/8123-h/8123-h.htm#link2HCH0021
Here are the lines:
ORGON.
Or sus, nous voila bien. J'ai, Mariane, en vous
Reconnu de tout temps un esprit assez doux,
Et de tout temps aussi vous m'avez ete chere.
MARIANE.
Je suis fort redevable a cet amour de pere.
ORGON.
Fort bien. Que dites-vous de Tartuffe notre hote?
MARIANE.
Qui? Moi?
ORGON.
Vous. Voyez bien comme vous repondrez.
MARIANE.
Helas! J'en dirai, moi, tout ce que vous voudrez!
(Mademoiselle Mariane laughs and blushes in spite of herself, whilst reading this line.)
ORGON.
C'est parler sagement. Dites-moi donc, ma fille,
Qu'en toute sa personne un haut merite brille,
Qu'il touche votre coeur, et qu'il vous seroit doux
De le voir par men choix devenir votre epoux!"
thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Hey friends, I wonder whether I could get some quick French help? I studied it briefly in high school, coming away only with the lesson that you can't guess how to pronounce a word just by looking at it. Specifically, I've got:
Prononcés- an adjective, is the s pronounced or silent?
Argent comptant- no sense going through all the options, I really don't know.
J'ai fait l'histoire- French ai rhymes with pay or say, right?
Tête baissée- I just have no idea on this one.
I'd be much obliged for any guidance. I used to have a good accent, we'll see if I still do! Meanwhile, I guess Latin is pretty nearly open to interpretation, but is there any reason I'd be scorned for pronouncing quocunque like "kwo-soon-kway"?

I'm sure no-one would scorn you, but I would definitely make the 'c' a hard 'k'.Bassaga wrote:is there any reason I'd be scorned for pronouncing quocunque like "kwo-soon-kway"?
I won't attempt the French for you now, but if no-one else comes along soonish, I'll record them for you.
