I like the idea of two proofing vids.

Proof Listening 101: An Unofficial Guide to Standard Proof Listening
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnmCX8383Cs just finished. it is still rough in spots and kinda long but I need feedback before doing a rewrite and remake.

Please take 15 minutes to watch and help me make it better.
Thanks. :D

It's pretty good. Of course you need to make it flow a little better. One note I wanted you add is that a DPL or any proofer, usually does spot checks on edits too.

Thank you for watching and feedback. I will be redoing this next week when more people have had a chance for imput.

Not sure what you mean by doing spot checks on edits. could you explain a bit more?
edits of what?.

Spot checks on the edits made in response to the PLer's initial PL notes. e.g. HERE I downloaded the edited file and checked at 08:12 that the repeat had been removed - then altered the duration in the MW and marked it OK.

This video has now been deemed cumbersome and not pretty by me and should not be recommended to newcomers. It is being replaced with 3 (count 'em three!) much shorter videos that I hope will get the essential points across in a more cogent manner:

Proof Listening 101: What standard Proof Listening listens for; and what it does not listen for. The secret is out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFm3IZ1CIa8

Prof Listening 102: How to find things to Proof listen & how to report your results
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0TJOaCIlpI

Proof Listening 103: BAsic proof listening on steroids; checking all those technical thingies

I will be posting the first two this evening and the third tomorrow. As always I am open to any comments for improvement. Just want to say that the original has been dumped as being too long and complicated.

What Should I Read First? a guide to newly approved readers to the Weekly Poetry forum with explanation on finding it, recording the poem, uploading it and posting on the forum.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8i3FwSuzOMY

This is my first attempt at helping new people find the weekly poetry forums. It is kinda long since I decided to walk through the whole process including file names and stuff.

If anyone thinks a shorter video that just discusses the best forums to look at for easier first reads, (without the recording walk through) I could do that easily enough. As always, any advice or suggestions would be hapily received.

Yep, I have made a new video that is destined to become a cult classic. Unfortunately I could only afford 3 zombies and they are just my dog and two Kosher pickles but they will have to do. These days it seems you've just got to have zombies! Oh well.

AUDACITY: A Quick Overview for the Completely Bewildered or What are all those funny buttons and thingies??

Here is the link: AUDACITY: An Overvew for the Completely Bewildered

My target audience is people who know nothing about the program and have been told they should try it to record for LV. So if you watch it, don't expect highly technical explanations. It presumes that they have it and the LAME codex installed on their computer. (By the way, my video on downloading Audacity and LAME is on hold. I just can't find a clear way of showing the process.)

The Sequel to this video is in the works. it will be called Audacity: Basic editing for Librivox and I have another that will be finished this month that tries to explains the Compression effect and why I use it a lot.

Gee, ain't life grand!

I haven't watch yet but I wanted to say what a fabulous job you have done with the video guides. I use them regularly in the test threads.

So THANKS PHIL!

You are very welcome Esther Imageand it is gratifying to know that you are using them. I suppose there is a long suppressed teacher inside of me struggling to get out or something because I get such delight designing and making these things. True, some are a challenge, but knowing that another LibriVoxer somewhere won't have to struggle as much as I did to discover a certain thing gives me a lot of happiness.

Speaking of this, I am considering a Welcome to LibriVox series (for people wanting to record) that would repeat some of the information that you and other admins so patiently explain over and over and over again to the new volunteers. Perhaps 3 connected videos? I am making a list of the topics and would like your advice on what might be best repeated for their viewing pleasure and that they really need to know at the start: a quick overview of the Forum, how to get around; 1 minute test: why it is done and how to do it; software needed; names; what to record first ?? etc. It would be called perhaps "Getting Started Recording 1,2,& 3"

Just look at our posts in the welcome section. This is where you will find what we tell them. There are several of us pretty active there.
