So this is on Gutenberg https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/67223 and it seems to say it is in the public domain and also that it is copyright 1958 at the same time. What am I missing here? I'd like to open this as a group project if it is indeed in the public domain.
Hi Phil,
I used my DP super-powers to research this. The clearance was a PG "Rule 6" submission, meaning that the original 1958 copyright was not renewed. Therefore it is PD in the U.S.
It's one of the copyright regs exceptions which (paraphrased) says that any work registered or first published in the U.S. (1927-1963), published with notice but copyright was not renewed, is in the public domain due to copyright expiration. (https://guides.library.cornell.edu/copyright/publicdomain)
IMHO, we can trust that if PG says it's PD, it is.

Gutenberg.org says it's "PD in the USA" so we consider it PD. We don't have to redo the research.

Well, there are things on PG that are "kinda sorta" in the public domain and the wording gets confusing to me. Anyway thanks and look for this in the Launch Pad in the next few days.DACSoft wrote: ↑January 23rd, 2022, 10:20 pm Hi Phil,
