Hi everyone,

I'm new here and new to the software. I was trying to record my 1-minute test, but Audacity kept crashing. I would start recording but then wouldn't be able to stop it. Every time I switched to another screen (to read the test paragraph from the web browser, for instance), I wouldn't be able to click on anything when I returned to Audacity. Therefore, so far I haven't been able to complete and save a recording yet... What should I do?

I haven't encountered this problem so I don't have a solution, but just in case it matters, could you also say which version of Audacity you are using and your operating system? (e.g. Audacity 2.4.2 and Windows 10)

It's Audacity 3.0.0 and Windows 10.

It might be a good idea to delete Audacity and download the programme again, as any bug which may cause this *may* have been corrected. It's a long shot, but might just work.

Audacity 3.0.0 is a new release, so you might be running into bugs still to be fixed.

I did some searching in the Audacity forum and here are a couple of suggestions:

https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=117371

1) Re-boot your computer. If that doesn't fix it, then,

2) Delete C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\audacity\audacity.cfg. If that doesn't fix it, then

3) Rename C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\Roaming\audacity

I'd suggest that you go back to Audacity 2.4.2 until the next Audacity release - it sounds like you may be running into a couple of bugs which are fixed in the current development code and will soon be available in the next release version.

Audacity 2.4.2 is available from FossHub: https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity-old.html
