Covermakers Chat Thread
I didn't know there was a 2 day rule to get projects covered! So now we gotta hurry, hurry hurry to claim or be left out? I thought we have 2 weeks to complete a cover.

No, there's no rule. I just don't like to see them sitting around unclaimed for days.
School fiction: David Blaize
America Exploration: The First Four Voyages of Amerigo Vespucci
Serial novel: The Wandering Jew
Medieval England meets Civil War Americans: Centuries Apart

nono - it was/is my personal rule for claiming covers.
sort of "jumping in when a cover is unclaimed" but giving others the opportunity of claiming the cover.
and as i said, the more difficult covers i like the best (or better the resulting covers i like the best).
cheers

Yes, I did
Oh, there isn't.
I understood Tricia and schrm don't like to see the projects unclaimed for more than two days and I agree. We don't need to hurry to do the covers, it is only better if the books don't stay too long without.
That's fine since you can only claim two at a time, but it sounds like you gotta hurry up and get them done so you can hurry up and claim more. I'm for encouraging more cover makers, not fewer, and that might require leaving some for them to claim. The only big hurry I see is Tricia's twitter feed, which announces books within 2 days, with or without their covers. I don't understand the need for this much pressure.

Actually I don't even know Tricias twitter feed as I am not on twitter at all. But I do know that there are more than one pages that post the books within a day or two, with or without cover
Tricia's feed is a "new releases" one. Not much point in announcing a "new" book that is a month old.
There is no need to wait for a cover, we don't do it anywhere else either.

The BCs would like to have a cover immediately if not sooner, just as readers would like their sections PLed the minute they are uploaded and BC's would like their projects catalogued 2 minutes after they were completed and new readers the 1-minute tests commented on hot from the uploader but none of these are possible.
So we all do the best we can and are patient with our fellow volunteers. Cos that is what LV is.

Who said a month, Availle? 4 days, 6 days, 8 days, what's the big rush? I'm just asking because I don't care really, only our books do make a better impression when they go out in public properly dressed.

Well said. It's very quick sometimes. One of the Cover Fairies swept in before I could blink and made up art for Treachery in Outer Space. Thank you, whoever. (Artwork credit doesn't appear in the book info, is there a way to find out who it is?) Otherwise, generic thanks go out to all covermakers!annise wrote: ↑September 19th, 2020, 5:00 pm The BCs would like to have a cover immediately if not sooner, just as readers would like their sections PLed the minute they are uploaded and BC's would like their projects catalogued 2 minutes after they were completed and new readers the 1-minute tests commented on hot from the uploader but none of these are possible.

Jewel Case Spines
When you look at a bunch of books standing on a library shelf, all the titles are facing the same way, namely, you tilt your head to the right to read them. The same is true for CD Jewel Cases, except that you can stack them with either spine facing forward, and either way (if the artwork is right side up), you tilt your head to the right to read them. To make this happen, professional CD designers put the titles on both wings of the Jewel Case Cover going in the same direction. I notice most of us don't do that, so I thought I'd give a heads up.

while i am pro this suggestion
but do the cover flaps vertically, because google docs cannot do otherwise
i remember i saw a video to this topic once, i think it was one of the americans moving to germany: also this is culturally different and a topic for industrial design enthusiasts!

Usually the PDF has the name of the cover maker on it somewhere.loon wrote: ↑October 1st, 2020, 10:27 am It's very quick sometimes. The CD Jewelcase template has them in opposite directions. That's the template I've been using. When you look at a bunch of books standing on a library shelf, all the titles are facing the same way, namely, you tilt your head to the right to read them. There are several jewel case templates on the wiki, one of which is mine. Which one are you using? And you should be able to alter any template to suit your directional preferences.
