Dear art lovers, I need help...

I would like to use a picture by Sandro Nardini, but I cannot find any dates for him.
Almost all poster sites have him, so I think his work is PD, but I cannot find anything on this man.
Do you know him?

I've been able to find just a few dates--I found a different print from 1949, and yet another from 1962. I'd agree that if it's being mass-produced, it probably is PD, but so far, I haven't been able to find a biography of him. I'll keep looking. Don't give up hope!

For what book, Bart? I found some references to his illustrations on a Google Books search, mostly for books from the 1960's. I can look up yours and see if I can find a date for it.

I am no art expert, but the illustration you posted doesn't look pre-1923 to me... just my impression and I could be wrong.

edited to add: It's Oliver Twist, isn't it? I found a reference to it in an Italian periodical that (as best as I can tell) is a listing of copyrights for publications. Sandro Nardini turns up as the illustrator for a translation of Oliver Twist published in 1962. This doesn't necessarily mean that the illustrations were made in 1962, but it does seem most likely. Unfortunately, I can't find that exact book. Will hunt a bit more.
Here's the listing I mention, in case you can access it: long Google books link

edited once again: Here's a 1954 edition of Oliver Twist, ill. by Sandro Nardini, on Italian Ebay: another long link. It doesn't look likely to be PD in the US to me, Bart... but of course "not likely" isn't the same as "not."
