If by 'cope' you mean copy and paste what you had on the German page and then cut out the German bits and put in the Spanish...

But its a nasty long code-page! Not easy to handle.

I guess you want to learn more features, like formatting, headlines, do tables, the table of contents, lists etc..
To explore that you can edit your own wikiHomePage.

How?
If you spot ?KarenSavage somewhere (perhaps at the footer of the spanish translation saying "last edited by ?KarenSavage", click on the ? and your homepage will be created.
Edit it and perhaps tell us about yourself there if you want, or list the projects you contributed to.

You can also put yourself in the List of Volunteers.

Good job Gypsygirl. You know, the german translation isn't proof read either. Proofreading is a good idea Karen (Karen is it?). I am thinking about starting a volunteer proof reading process for it.

it would seem to me that the most apparent and easiest way that people can get an idea of what the site is about is by using google's automatic translation of webpages to your own langauge. I am sure the main idea will get across. Perhaps translators could work on writing how to's for viewing and comunicating in your own langauge using the translation tools provided by google.

you can set up google prefrences to translate every foreign language page to your own langauge. Human translation work is better, but we will never be able to do things like translate the entire forum.

I think we should work on encouraging the public to use the avalable machine translation tools so that they can at least communicate with the forums to some degree.

I tried viewing the librivox page in antoher language via google and the format was perserved perfectly.

We should certainly include a How-To of what you suggest high on the translation page i am planning to include. If they can get the forum translated this way that would be awesome.

a certain passage from the librivox front page was translated into german and then back translated to english to give a good idea of its quality. See if you all can guess which passage I used:

LibriVox supplies free audiobooks from the public domain. There are some elections for hearing. The first step is to receive the mp3 or ogg the documents into your own computer:

Machine translation will even give a general idea of what people are saying around the forums.

Using google language tools or the free prompt online translation service, you could easily type a forum legnth post and have it translated to english. Not perfect, but the main ideas should get across.

google translation tools offer many more languages than librivox will be able to provide through its volunteers for at least a while yet, and the solution covers far more ground with much less time investment.

To Translate all content seen through google in your own language, follow these steps:

1. visit the google homepage www.google.com
2. click on preferences.
3. under the heading Global Prefrences, select your interface language from the drop down list.
4. click on save preferences at the bottom of the page and presto! Google will translate all pages to your language!

try it and see if I left anything out.

5. Do a search for www.librivox.org and click [translate] behind the first link in the search result.
6. Google will from this point translate all the following pages to your language!

A nice addition to the quality translations by volunteer-power. :)
