you can bookmark the translated librivox front page or put it on your bookmark toolbar in mozilla and it will come up in german and display all subsiquent pages in german without having to google it first.

also, if you go to "more" on the google homepage and click on translation, foregn users can type a message in the text box and translate it to english. They will then be able to communicate with this forum.

If a user would like to make certain that the translation is understandable or that his or her meaning is not misinterpreted, they could always translate the english text back into german to give them an idea of how correct it is.

the only problem with google translation as I have discovered, is that it seems to have a translation limit. When I brows through the forum in German, it continually does not translate material from the very bottom of a full page. PROMT is a good quality translator that seems to translate an entire forum page and all its links. http://www.online-translator.com/srvurl.asp?lang=en

bassed on my exprimentation with it a while back, the quality it produces is very good as far as these things go.

I don't mean this to sound like the next cure all, but it will at least give international users a hint about what is going on. It will in any case be better than nothing.

by the way, Google is slowly upgrading its translation systems to newer and better statistical machine translation models. They have already done so with chinese and Arabic.

Erm... I noticed that they have Klingon listed as one of the possible interface languages

Wow, Stephan, I asked a question and I sure got an answer! thank you very much for the speedy response - and it is already tomorrow in your part of the world! I thought I would be writing a few pages of text, but here I am learning more techie stuff. Guess it can't hurt
