Translations for Volunteer emails

Hey all,

For some reason we have never translated the email we send out to people wanting to volunteer.

It would be great to get: Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French and German. These are the most frequent of languages we get requests from.

Here is the text we use:

Thanks for the interest in LibriVox ... All our volunteering activity happens on our internet forums (book selection, volunteering to read chapters, project management etc). So the best thing to do is to read through this short document:

And then visit our forums, register, and post somewhere, someone should answer your questions quickly if you have any:

We suggest you start with short works first (Weekly Poetry is a good place to start), and then try longer works. If you do not wish to record, you can also help by proof-listening, or editing, and in many other ways.

I know you didn't ask for a Dutch version, but what the heck. Here it is:

Bedankt voor je belangstelling voor LibriVox. Al ons vrijwilligerswerk vindt plaats op onze internetforums (keuze van boeken, verdeling van het voorleeswerk, projectmanagement, enz). En breng dan een bezoek aan onze forums, registreer je en plaats een bericht. Als je een vraag hebt, krijg je meestal heel snel een antwoord: http://librivox.org/forum

We raden je aan om eerst iets korts te doen. (In het Nederlands zou je een kort verhaal kunnen inspreken voor onze verhalencollectie, of een gedicht voor de ‘multi-lingual poetry collection’.) Als je eenmaal gewend bent aan het werk van LibriVox, kun je ook een groter project proberen. En wil je niet voorlezen, dan kun je ook nog helpen als proefluisteraar, bij het monteren, of met een van de vele andere taken.

Laat het me weten als je ergens problemen mee hebt.

Just thinking, Weekly Poetry is only a good place to start if you can/want to read in English, so it might not be most helpful to just translate this as it stands.
Is there always a Multilingual Poetry collection on the go? (That does put the onus on the reader to find a poem too, of course.) Or maybe a link could be put in each version to a search for open projects in that language to help volunteers get started?

Edit - ah, crossposted, and while my Dutch is not the best, I can just about work out that bart has made a sensible adaptation of just the sort I meant!

Agreed with rd there. I think that pointing to the Multilingual would be better (there has been one up all the time since I joined, I think).

Yes indeed, I did change that line. Translated back to English I wrote:

I used the informal address, which is common in the internet. Moreover, I didn't point them to the weekly poetry, but to the German short works collections of texts and poetry.

Falls Du nicht selbst etwas aufnehmen möchtest, kannst Du auch auf anderem Wege helfen. Du kannst schon aufgenommene Kapitel prüfen oder editieren oder auf vielen anderen Wegen einen Beitrag leisten.

I have been always keeping a short works collection in Portuguese open, so I directed people there, or to the Multilingual. Anyway, if you receive any enquiries in Portuguese, you can always forward them to me.

I think this might be helpful in general if you reply in another language than English - if I get a German email back I'd be a bit puzzled to see the English-only forums...

Except I just saw that I wrote "librox" instead of "libros" (and I just did it again just now!). Darn you, librivox and your 'x' at the end of a word starting in libr!

Nous vous recommandons de débuter avec des oeuvres courtes (collection de poésie par exemple, ou Weekly Poetry), puis d'essayer des oeuvres plus longues. Si vous ne souhaitez pas enregistrer, vous pouvez également être très utile en tant qu'auditeur pour vérifier les enregistrements d'autres participants, ou en tant qu'éditeur, mais il y a bien sûr bien d'autres possibilités.
