Hello,
Could I get some feedback on anything I may need to fix?
I used a MacOS with Audacity. I don't have a microphone however (I used the computer's built in microphone, hopefully that's acceptable).

Hi, Welcome to Librivox
YOu're sounding good and all tech specs are correct, but could you just try some noise reduction. It will get rid of some of the background hiss and then you should be good to go.
Instructions can be found here https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Noisecleaning_With_Pics
Please upload the test again after trying this, and post the link here

Also, would i be wrong to assume from your username that you are recording for librivox for volunteer hours for another organisation? This is absolutely okay if that's the case but just so that you're aware, no one at librivox can sign anything confirming your hours and hours spent outside of recording time (e.g. to edit the recordings) cannot be confirmed.
(also, if im wrong on that assumption please just ignore me, as many people (outside of librivox) often do

Hello,
Thank you for the tips, would this be better?
https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_dhskeyclub.mp3
Also, thank you for giving me the heads up on volunteer hours. The plan was to make this a joint account for the Dulaney High School Key Club (located in Maryland), to allow our various members to contribute to LibriVox. We'll be able manage the volunteer hours ourselves and do our best to maintain consistency across all our recordings
!

Yep, that setup is good. You're ready to start recording.
I'm not sure if we have any rules about accounts being shared. I will check and get back to you on that

Hi again,
Could I please get some info from you to share with admins so that they will be able to decide whether a shared account will be okay. shared accounts aren't the norm and it is decided whether they will be allowed on a case by case basis.
1) how many people are planning to use the account, and will each person be recording multiple things or will it just be a one-off from each person?
2) Are any of the people who would be submitting recordings minors? (they would need parental consent)
3) Is there any specific reason as to why individuals couldn't set up their own accounts/as to why you would prefer a shared account?

Hello,
1) The account is planned to be used by one or two individuals (one of which is me! Joshua Lin). Our club was looking to expand our horizons and volunteer in more activities, especially with the restrictions that came along with COVID-19. LibriVox was an activity many of our members are interested in, so I wanted to use this account to simplify the process for our members and encourage participation.
2) Yes, this is a High School club, however, we are also a club dedicated to service (you can refer to our international organization here: https://www.keyclub.org/). In order to actually be in the club and participate, parents must already be aware of their child's participation in the club (it's part of our registration process to become a club member), so you don't need to worry about that!
3) We do not discourage individuals to set up accounts. We'd mainly like to create a joint one because many of our members have many other commitments (other clubs, schoolwork), and many of them don't have the time to set things up. However, many of them still want to contribute, so I'm attempting to simplify the process for them. However, if an individual wants to create their own account, we'll walk them through the process. You also won't need to worry about the quality of our recordings as well. We will walk our members through the One-Minute test, and make sure they meet LibriVox requirements before recording.
By having a joint account, we can also allow LibriVox to be a year-round activity that members can contribute to, and be able to manage our activities better (it's much easier to appropriately award our members hours that they will graduate with).
If you need any proof/verification to allow this shared account, please let me know.

I have made a thread here viewtopic.php?f=23&t=84296 so that admins are aware of this and can decide whether this will be okay

Just in case you didn't seeAvaille wrote: ↑December 17th, 2020, 7:27 pmSounds reasonable, we've had this before.![]()
The only thing he needs to be aware of - and he is already, apparently- is that they will have a librivox catalog page as a group with that forum name, and that there is no way to individually credit readers as long as they are part of the group. And even if individual readers get their own accounts later on, we will not reassign any of the recordings they did as part of the group. Just too messy.

It might also be a good idea to set up their own "closed" group projects just for them so that there is less confusion a la "umm... weren't you a girl just yesterday??" for the BCs in other projects and also for the listeners. It's not a requirement but maybe worth thinking about.
As I said, there were group projects like these before, and they worked best when there was one/two dedicated "leaders" to take care of the technical aspects and submitting etc. But it seems that Joshua has that one figured out already. Way to go!![]()
