Hi Steven! No need to be nervous, you are among friends here. Your voice is quite fabulous and all of your technical specs are right on the button. The one thing I would like you to change is your volume; it is too loud. We aim at arouond 89 decibels here and your test is at 93.4. This is simple to fix. If your software has a gain button or slider, just move it to a bit quieter.StevenJonPeterson wrote: ↑November 2nd, 2020, 5:21 pmhttps://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_stevenjonpeterson.mp3
Or you may want to just move an inch further away from the mic. (Or you could just de amplify your track)
We use a Checker program to see our volume. you should download it I think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKVOYsaDoRo&feature=youtu.be it is tiny and works like a charm.
So, please reduce your volume, make another test, call it TEST 2 with your name, upload and put the link in this thread where I will see it q uickly. You are almost there!! You really sound like a professional already.

All I'm saying is that the house doesn't fill up with annoying fruit flies when I buy donuts

Phil, I hope this is better. I reduced the gain by about 4db.
I forgot to add that I am using a Sennheiser mkh 416 microphone into a dox 286s mic preamp, then a sound devices usb pre2 interface.
I record and edit using Twisted Wave on a Mac Mini.
Thanks for your help Phil. and your very helpful videos.

On this Test2 in reduced the volume by about 4db.
Again Phil thanks for your help.

And that does the trick! You have the official OK to record lots and lots. We recommend starting with something short because editing is usually a new skill but you probably are an old hand at it. Jump in, have fun and ask lots of questionsStevenJonPeterson wrote: ↑November 3rd, 2020, 9:58 amhttps://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test2_stevenjonpeterson.mp3

Thanks Phil. Im looking forward to getting involved. Looks like a great group of people.
Do members ever get together? A meet up or convention? I did watch a recorded zoom meeting last week. That was good and of course your videos are helpful.
Thanks,
Steve
