I am a new volunteer and this is my first test. This was recorded in Windows using a USB mic (Blue Yeti). I appreciate any feedback.

Hi Steve and welcome! Your voice is very nice and distinctive. |Also your tech specs and volume are right on the button so you have the official OK to record lots and lots.

How did you get your tech specs right on the first try? Just curious. Did you read the instructions or watch a video? I am always looking to help new people get started smoothly and since you did it first try perhaps there is a trick we need to know about?

Thanks for your feedback, Phil. I'm looking forward to recording some short pieces to get started. For the technical specifications, I looked at the instructional material on the librivox portal including your videos, which I found very helpful. I also did a google search (unfortunately I can't remember what page I found) and it gave a little more detail about setting the technical specs (e.g., it directed me to preferences / quality to change set the bit rate, I didn't see that instruction on the librivox site). I had to do 5 or 6 tries on the test recording to get the volume right; your check program was very helpful for that.

Thanks again for welcoming me into this great community, I look forward to lots of recordings and also listening to the wonderful material that is already posted.

Excellent. Thank you very much for the feedback. My feeling is that all of this information should be available in plain sight as soon as you join up. In other words if we require certain tech specs, we should explain them clearly and provide instructions for the most popular software Audacity. Google searches should not be necessary. So thank you again. The information is there, but making it easily obtainable is the problem. (any advice on this would be most welcome. I don't know how to do this)

I think if you could add a little more detail to the 'Setting Tech Specs for Librivox' slide you used in your video, it might help people get to the place they need to enter the settings more easily. It could go something like this:

[ Use Edit>preferences>devices]
1- mono (one track)

[ Use Edit>preferences>quality]
2- 44100 Hz default sample rate
3- 16 bit default sample format

[ Use export menu]
4- MP3 file format
5- format options>bit rate mode: Constant
6- format options>quality: 128 kbps

Well that is certainly more logical, to deal with each one separately like that. Thank you and please continue to give feedback on the LibriVox process any time you spot something. We are all a bunch of volunteers here and appreciate guidance on how to make the process a bit smoother.
