Hello there,

I cannot speak for the recording quality (I am just starting myself) but the link has an extra character at the end so it leads to a 404 page. This should be the correct link:

Hi and welcome! There are two things you need to fix with your recording setup:
1) we need a bit rate of 128 kbps constant; yours is at 192 kbps
2) we aim at a volume of around 89 decibels, ; yours is now at 92.5 which is a little high.

Please these two things and make another test, call it TEST 2
here is a video on fixing bit rate https://youtu.be/K2JWKadgtdE it is very simple
To reduce your volume, move the gain slider in Audacity a little to the left, or move a bit back from the microphone, also easy.
Most of us use the Checker program to get our volume https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKVOY

So please fix these two things, make another test, call it TEST 2, upload and put the link here in this thread so I will see it quickly !! :D Your voice is fine but I noticed that the volume goes up and down like you may be using a noise cancelling microphone. If this is the case please turn it off, it distorts your great voice.
All I'm saying is that the house doesn't fill up with annoying fruit flies when I buy donuts

Ok, you fixed your bit rate and now it is perfect but your volume is even louder than before. Your first test was at 92.5 and this second one is at 93.5. There is something odd about your recording too, it sound wavy, the volume is going up and down from loud to softer between words and t here is a tinny effect overlaying it all. Listen to it yourself and see if you know what I am speaking of. It is definitely not right. What kind of microphone are you using? Whatever it is, decrease the gain (volume) at the mic if there is something there to do it and also decrease the gain inside Audacity using that slider button. Sorry to make you do another test but this really must be fixed before going on. Do you have another mic perhaps you could try?

I can't give any more advice except that your volume needs to come down and you need to find out why that up and down tin can effect is showing up in your recordings. Please be patient, this will be solved and let's keep trying, OK?

Hi Phil,
No, I really want to find out how to make my recordings sound better, so thank you. I am recording on a Scarlett 2i2 microphone. This is test 3. I am also going to submit a test on my Blue Yeti microphone. I wondering which recording sounds better.

I am glad you are willing to solve this. The Scarlett 2i2 is an interface, something the microphone plugs into and processes the audio before sending it to the software recording in your computer. Is your microphone a Scarlett also? I know they make them. The volume is still over 93 decibels and the weird tinny up and down is probably even worse now. Are you doing any processing to the track before uploading it? Noise Reduction or anything like that? I recommend u sing your Yeti mike to plug directly into your computer and give that a try. Just bypass the interface entirely. I admit that I have a 286s preamp interface with an expensive microphone but found after a year of experimenting that just using my Yeti directly plugged into my computer works better than all that electronic stuff. Go figure!

EDIT: As I was typing this you sent in test 4 Yes! this is very very much better and gets rid of that wierd tin can sound. But your volume is now at 77.1 decibels. Simple to fix. All you need to do is increase the gain using that Gain knob on your Yeti, and use the Recording Volume slider in Audacity to increase the volume there. After you have adjusted it, it can export it and use the Checker to see what the volume is.

Or you can use your eyes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9WF82rf81o

Whoops. Your volume is now at 83 decibels, getting close but no cigar. Try amplifying Test 5 by 5 decibels and see what happens. Remember our goal is around 89 decibels!
