Hello, this is Susan, I'm a returning reader and I look forward to working on books with the gang once again.

For the specifics of my setup I have the latest version of Audacity and Checker downloaded. My OS is Windows10, and my mic is built into the laptop which is a gaming laptop that I bought recently for the large hard drive--1tb. I have earbud headphones.

I did clean up the noise one time because I knew how but there is still some noise that mystified me that I didn't realize the source until I was done--a personal fan!

Look forward to your assessment.

Sue

Welcome back!

Your recording sounds great and it passes all of the requirements! The only thing I can mention otherwise is the noise. Can you identify what is causing the noise, and reduce it? I tried using the Noise Reduction effect on the track (in Audacity), but it didn't seem to work very well.

Hi, thanks for the feedback! The noise was my small fan running at the time of the recording. I don't know how to reduce the noise further myself. Do you require a new recording?

I don't think it should matter as long as your future recordings don't contain too much noise : )

Haha, I'm not mod or admin; just a normal user, so I cannot do that. A mod or admin will have to add the OK to the title.
But you can go ahead with recording for Librivox anyway, as your file has passed all of the requirements.

Hi Sue,

I would recommend a quick new test without the noise source just to be sure. It is best to fix it before jumping into a longer recording. :-)

Yes, m8b1 I will submit a new test without the fan on, good idea! Those book recordings are a lot of work.

Thanks,

Sue

My BC and Administrator m8b1 asked me to clear up the noise for sure in my first test before I start actual recording. I had identified the noise as a small fan next to me that was on at the time of recording. So Anonyme and I let it go.

This recording is plenty loud it was done without a headset just the built in mic and speakers of my Dell gaming laptop. I don't use it much for gaming I bought it for it's large hard drive--1tb. It has a Windows 10 OS. I use the latest Audacity to record and the latest Checker. This file Passed Checker.

Thank you

Much better! There is still a tiny bit of noise. If you want to, you can remove it using Audacity. Here's the process:

1. Select the area from the audio position 53.250s to the end of the track (57.104s).
2. Click the Effect button on the top bar and click the Noise Reduction effect.
3. Now, change the settings to match this:

Noise Reduction (dB): 14
Sensitivity: 6.00
Frequency smoothing (bands): 3
Noise: Reduce

4. Next, click the Get Noise Profile button.
5. Now, select the whole track and click the Noise Reduction effect again. This time, click the OK button at the bottom instead of clicking the Get Noise Profile button.

And that should make the track sound less noisy!

Hi Anonyme, :)

Here's the latest test following your directions. It worked fine and I needed the practice with Audacity.

Thank you,

Sue
