Well, I think I'm almost ready to dip my toes into the Librivox waters!

I'm using Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon, Audacity 2.2.1, and a Blue Snowball iCE USB microphone

Hi Luke, and a warm welcome to our forum :D

thank you for starting with the test, always good to get the technical things right from the start ;) You did your homework, the tech specs are all up to LV standard. Your reading voice and enunciation is also well paced and clearly understandable, so everything is perfect for audio-narration. Already looking forward to hearing more from you.

Only one tiny snag is the volume, which is very slightly below our accepted limits. We accept between 86 and 92 dB, preferably as close to the golden mean of 89 as possible. Yours currently is 85.3 dB. I think amplifying with 3 dB would be perfect. Here is how to do that in audacity:

> highlight your recording
> go to Effect
> go to Amplify
> input 3 (in your case now) in the upper slot (called: amplification dB)
> press ok

you can check your volume and technical settings with the Checker program in future: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker it will tell you by how far off your volume is.

Could you quickly try this amplify function on your test (no need to re-record, just use the audacity function) and post in this same thread, so I can have a second look ? I'm sure then you're ready to roll :)

Thanks

Sonia
