May anyone comment?

Quite nice. Very clean, crisp.

May anyone comment?
Sure, as long as it's constructive (and not "your accent is horrible!")

Rod - sounds great! The only issue is that your volume is too low. Numerically, it needs to come up about 10 dB.

Are you using Audacity? I'll give instructions assuming you are.

Visually, you should aim for your wave forms to peak near the 0.5 mark, like this:

Make sure the microphone slider in the Audacity window is all the way up. Also, have you increased your input volume in Windows yet? Here's a link to instructions: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Audacity_1-2-3#Volume

Try making these adjustments, then record another test. Use the same file name as your previous one, and post in this same thread when it's ready.

Something that might help you: There's a plugin for Audacity that will tell you how much to amplify your recordings, or how far off you are from "ideal" volume. It's called ReplayGain. Instructions for installing and using it are on this page: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Measuring_Volume_within_Audacity

Here is my second take - hopefully my volume is within range this time.

Any comments on the speed, background noise, and any other are most welcome.

Thanks
Rod

It's in range this time - 87.9 dB. 8-)

Pacing sounds fine, although that really is dependent on the text you're recording. Some are better faster, some are better slower. *shrug*

Noise is A-OK.

You're good to go! You can ask for constructive criticism on recordings you submit "for real," if you want. Have fun!
