I'd love a critique. I feel like my breathing is loud (allergies affect this, but may have to do with microphone placement). I also hear a pop on "thirteenth" and "test", but not at any other time. I'm not sure why only those seem to pop.

hi and welcome to librivox!

i dont share your critique about loud breathing at all, i think you sound just fine. honestly i dotn even hear a special pop on thirteenth and test. no problems at all on that front!

i do have a little note for your attention. your volume is a little low at 85 decibel. we aim for 89 decibel, but we accept recordings in the range 86-92 decibel. the tricky thing is that audacity doesnt tell you what your volume is. eventually you will be able to see the volume in the waveform, but until then, you need to use some tricks. my favourite is a little add-on to audacity called replaygain. you have to add it separately, but we have instructions here https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Measuring_Volume_within_Audacity
with replaygain you can set your volume to 89 decibel easily, so that you neednt worry about that part anymore.

once you have increased the volume, check again for background noise. if you increase the volume of the recording, the background noise increases as well. you might have to apply a round of noisecleaning. we also have a tutorial on that in case you dont know how to use it yet :) https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Noisecleaning_With_Pics

will you look at the volume once again, increase it, and reupload, just to make sure? thank you :D

Dank u, Carolin! (Ik was in Nijmegen voor 3 maanden in 2013!)

The new file is:
https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_mdnahas_TAKE2.mp3

I used ReplayGain plugin's "Normalize" effect.
I used Noise Reduction effect with settings 6,6,6.

The "Noise Reduction" didn't seem to affect the part where I'm speaking, but I can now clearly (but very quietly) hear my neighbor's dog barking during the "silent" bit at the end of the track!

hi,

i'm just jumping in to leave the: pl is ok!

(on a side note: the filename has to be all lower case, for every other file you upload than your 1 minute test :)

please don't hesitate to have a look in our readers wanted subforums and claim 1-2 sections.
i suggest to choose something suiting to your interests, wether it is chapters of a book, poems or short novels - that makes a great deal of the fun!
:D

i wish you all the fun you can have with recording for the public domain!

cheers,
beg your pardon i had an accident.
i stop librivoxing for a few days.
pls pl instead of me the one minute tests!
