Hello, newbie here, first attempt and have to admit I got pretty lost fiddling with Garageband. And advice about changing settings warmly received. My oneminute test should be here:

Hello
I'm reposting this as I think I maybe made the mistake of shorting minute to min in the subject line - hoping that's why no one replied  Would be great if someone could give me some advice

Actually the reason is that I have only one head and two ears and a real life, too ;) I think other volunteers have that, too

Hm, Garageband... I remember there is always some trouble with mono/stereo, and that is exactly one of the points:
the recording is in stereo, we need mono

Also the recording is a bit too loud. We aim at 89 dB +- 3 dB; the recording is at 94 dB. You could check volume and other tech specs with Checker (see signature), or volume only with mp3gain.

Also there is some noticeable noise.

How to deal this those topics should be addressed here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=GarageBand For the volume there should be something like "normalize" or so, about -3 dB should do if you have such an entry in the menu :)

Else I liked your reading, very clear and understandable

Oh I'm so sorry if you thought I was cross no one had got back to me quick enough. It was just that I noticed after my first post that lots of posts after mine had had replies and I was getting paranoid that maybe I had done something so incredibly dumb that all you wise folk gave up on me (now I'm trying to chose a smilie that suggests genuine penitent if mildly paranoid but nice person - :) which probably doesn't really cut it.

Thanks so much for advice - will really try to tackle garageband - it's already on our computer so seems sensible to use - I just need enough sense to understand it.....
