Welcome to Librivox, Marie!

Your tech specs are correct, and the volume is good!
The sound is quite clear but optionally you can use the noise reduction tool in Audacity for the white noise in the background.
To experiment, highlight with your mouse a portion of the recording where it's only background noise, no speaking (e.g. from the final seconds of recording), go to menu->Effect-> Noise Reduction, click "Get Noise Profile". Then select the entire track (Ctrl+A) and go to menu->Effect->Noise Reduction, again. Try with the suggested values or experiment to see what works best for you (I use 10 / 3 / 1), and click OK, to see if you like the result.

Either way, you're ready for Readers Wanted! Find projects you're interested in and have fun recording!
