Welcome, Caitlin Audra!

Well done on getting all the settings correct on the first go

The only thing that needs adjustment in your test is the volume, it is currently too soft at about 72 dB. We aim for 89 dB, but generally accept anything between 87 and 91dB. See if you can make a new recording with a higher input volume. If you are using Audacity, did you choose your microphone in the drop-down menu? Try sliding the slider next to the microphone symbol in Audacity all the way to the right. Maybe there is a way to increase the input volume on your microphone itself? Or in your OS?

Have a go, see what you can do. :) Please upload your new test and post again in this thread. And, of course, if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask them

Thanks for the feedback!

Unfortunately, I found out just as I sat down to record that my microphone input jack is on the fritz so I had to rely on my laptop's internal microphone for this test - this is about as loud as it goes. I already have a usb mic on the way so I should be able to submit an improved recording in a few days :)

Looking forward to trying again!

Hi Kathrinee,

I used the checker software and this appears to be better - http://uploads.librivox.org/tests/test2_casmith512.mp3. Can you give it a listen and let me know?

Thanks so much!
Cate
