Hello, this is my very first time on the forum and my first recording. Nice to meet you. Please let me know if my recording is acceptable. :help:
Done on my phone with an app.

Hi Tonika, welcome to librivox :D

You're sounding pretty great, considering you used a phone

However, quite a few tech specs are not correct :

The bit rate should be 128 kbps.

The recording should be in mono sound, not stereo sound.
The volume is too low at 83dB (should be 86 - 92dB)

I'm not sure that you will be able to fix these things on your phone and editing audio on your phone would probably be very difficult too.

Do you have a laptop that you could edit on, even if you still record on your phone and send the file to your laptop. There is a free DAW that most Librivox volunteers use https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Audacity_1-2-3

This is actually a wav file, and it needs to be mp3 with the following properties:
Channel: Mono
Sample rate: 44100 Hz
Sample format: 16 bit
Export bitrate: 128 kbps
I don't know what app you are using, but some of them are very limited in the kinds of settings they can use. Others are quite sophisticated, but unfortunately, I won't be a great deal of help with any of them. If there is a Help or FAQ section provided by the app developers, you might try checking there to see if you can get these settings.

By the way, I do agree with Ashleigh that, as far as sound quality goes, it sounds really nice! You have a pleasant voice, too. I'm also inclined to agree with her that it may be difficult to edit on your phone (cutting out mistakes, etc). I think there are some good apps out there that will let you edit, but I haven't used any of them, so all I have to go by is hearsay. Editing is a crucial skill when it comes to a full recording, because even professionals don't make it through a whole chapter in one go without any mistakes.

Sadly I don't have a laptop or computer right now, but I will in a couple months. Therefore I use my phone for everything I need. I'm new to voice editing and have been learning the different lingo, but I'm not sure about the 16bit. Hopefully this is better. :hmm:

All of the settings are correct on this one, but the volume is slightly too low. I dont know how to help you with fixing that on a phone, but its 85dB and we aim for 86-92dB, with 89dB being the goal.

If you know that you're getting a laptop in a couple of months, you might be best to wait (i know, waiting is hard sometimes  ) as I still think you're going to find editing on your phone a pain in the butt.

Understood. These are my last two attempts with different volume levels...if failed I'll wait for the laptop because it really is a pain in the butt

Both of these are way too loud. One is over 100dB  also the bitrate is incorrect on both

its a shame there isnt anything to make using a phone for librivox easier :(

See you soon :D
