thanks for chatting a bit about content! I felt the essay set out to do what you took away, but devolved into a treatise on love, and forbidden love being allowed to burst forth. If he only knew that same-sex acceptance would take a century to roll out.

The anthropocentric and -morphic ideas of section 10, enlisted to enable us to commune with animals;
and the nature-nurture talk ran throughout the last century, I think, until they became the opposite of Carpenter's thought. Swing of the pendulum. He was ahead of his time in allowing Hindu/yogic ideas to influence him. And in bringing the naturalist's perspective into social commentary. Yes, I would like to read more.

I asked my librarian about the noise, and she said, "no one would come here
if they weren't allowed to talk out loud." So I read out loud.

Great catches. Thank you. Perhaps it's my system. I couldn't hear anything other than silence in the last seconds. I replaced them regardless and hope that they'll be ok.

A revised version(37:09) has been uploaded for your review.

Thank you for listening and providing PL notes! In the future, please post PL notes in the thread. That way they are there, for reference. Thank you :9:

Sec. 8 notes
increase lead silence to .5-1.0 sec
16:06 – some odd noise. Should be easy to cut out because it’s between sentences.
32:04-32:13 – distracting background noises during narration
and one small noise in your 5 seconds of silence at the end that could be cut.
I'll be away April 16-22.

Here is the final section (Appendix):

https://librivox.org/uploads/kathrinee/civilisation_14_carpenter_128kb.mp3 - 60m21s

It's a long one.
I've chosen to simplify it a bit, so I don't include page numbers etc - the audio is long enough, I think if a listener is really keen enough to look up one of these works referenced in the appendix, they can look up the source material to see specific page numbers.

Thanks - sorry it's so long :lol:
