I've just read Section 10 and I have a few questions. The daughter's name in A Ball in High Life is either Arla or Aria -- the spelling isn't consistent throughout the story. Is it the reader's job to make corrections or just to read the text as it is written?

Also there are a couple of places where a word may have been left out, like on page 5172, "he began by of Gurli ..." -- should I just read what is written?

Also I am doing my best to read the Swedish names (of people, of titles of Leffler's other works, of towns, etc.) but I'm certain I'm not doing a great job -- some of the names are not pronounced (or even available) on the internet and most that can be found don't provide an English way of saying the names or of translating the names.

Because of the preponderance of Swedish names, perhaps I should abandon this section and leave it for someone who knows some Swedish and can do a better job with pronunciation.

Your advice?

Hello, and thank you for asking!

As to your first question: our policy is to read the text as written - but glaring mistakes (such as the character name changing...) can be fixed by the reader. In this case, as Arla seems to be more consistent, I would use that. As to the missing words, as a reader, you can just read as it is, and nobody will say anything. However, since you called attention, I went to look for it, and found out this chapter has a (big) mistake: a page seems to have been messed up in order! I will let Gutenberg know about it - but if you wish to, you can read from the copy here: https://archive.org/details/libraryofworldsbe13warn/page/5162/mode/2up
You will see that it all makes sense there. That part you pointed out (he began by of Gurli) comes up because they put together page 5172 (and then he began by) with the beginning of page 5171 (of Gurli but a pair of impatient eyes). The pages are in reversed order. So... maybe you can read the pages again, or maybe just reverse the order of your recording. :)

As to the names: provided you are consistent, there is no need to use Swedish pronunciations. An English speaker, reading the book, would not know the Swedish pronunciations (and I dare say wouldn't look for them onlune either), he would read the names as an English speaker. Pick a way of saying, and stick with it - that would be my advice. :D

You don't need to post the test in the project threads. The tests are checked in the Listeners Wanted Forum. :)

I hope the actual Emerson selections are easier reading than this introduction!

An admirable job, Linda, considering the long names and repetition of certain phrases! Section #21 is PL Okay.

Well done, Colleen! Those paragraphs were especially long; he did go on and on. PL Okay for section #36.
